Hallo, Hello, Olá — Lia Weller, Wer singt für Osterreich contestant, is a major language mogul. Ahead of Austria’s national selection for Eurovision 2016, she spoke to us in German, English and Portuguese. Lady werks that tongue! With strong vocals and some sassy South-American personality, Miss Weller is going to leave you with goosebumps this Friday, partly because she believes in herself. Let’s all fall in love together…

LIA WELLER (WSFO 2016): INTERVIEW

Known for her work in Brazilian blockbuster movies and soap operas, Lia is trying her luck in this year’s Wer singt für Österreich? with a powerful ballad about giving folks another chance. “It was a jam session. It just came out. The message of the song is about giving second chances — a restart. The lyrics are very strong.”

Lia also knows the risks of competing with a ballad: “Either you do a cool track or you go for a powerful ballad. When you sing a ballad you only have two ways to make it stand out. It’s to give the emotion and do something that will catch people’s attention. You cannot dance, you cannot fly, you can’t set a piano on fire.”

As for the performance, Miss Weller promised to leave us with goosebumps, but admits that she is a little scared about what she’ll be doing. One thing she’s not scared about is critical reviews: “I just take them as an opinion, I don’t take it personally, because I also have one.”

What a delight she is 🙂

For me it’s between her song and ‘Loin d’ici’; if the performance is as big as she’s suggesting maybe we’ll see her in Stockholm. I’m not sold on either, but both have potential. The song from Stella is probably the third in my estimation.
