Ten acts competed in the second semi-final of Eesti Laul 2016, Estonia’s national selection for Eurovision. They did their best to give us remarkable performances — and some of them actually managed to! (We’ll let you discuss who didn’t in private). But only five could make it through to the final, which will take place on March 5, joining the qualifiers from the first semi-final in this musical showdown. The lucky quintet are: Grete Paia with “Stories Untold”, Meisterjaan with “Parmupillihullus”, Go Away Bird with “Sally”, Jüri Pootsmann with “Play” and I Wear* Experiment with “Patience”.
GRETE PAIA — “STORIES UNTOLD”
MEISTERJAAN — “PARMUPILLIHULLUS”
GO AWAY BIRD — “SALLY”
JURI POOTSMANN — “PLAY”
I WEAR* EXPERIMENT — “PATIENCE”
NON-QUALIFIERS
Gertu Pabbo — “Miljon korda”
Anett Kulbin — “Strong”
La La Ladies — “Unikaalne”
Púr Múdd — “Meet Halfway”
Põhja-Tallinn & Jaagup Kreem — “Ei ole mul olla”
Are you happy with the results? Let us know in the comments box below!
I love Go Away Bird! I hope they win!
Juri has interesting staging, a bit film noir (like last years Estonia’s entry actually). It’s original, it’s simple, will do well with the juries.
I still find his song strangely unengaging though… I’m not moved by it at all.
The I Wear Experiment (Patience) performance actually won me over the most, musically-speaking. (This is despite the lyrics seemingly being about a relgious rite I don’t understand.) There’s something about them I find mezmorizing. Juri has a great voice, and his song is delibaretly retro to suit him – that’s why it works. Go Away Bird has the coolest song in the selection with “Sally,” and the performance got top marks from me – it just oozes cool!! I Love it! Greta Paia – There was a storm gimmick, for seemingly no obvious reason. Apart from that, it was okay.… Read more »
I knew those 4 would qualify, but I chose not to watch it in fear of being crushed by disappointment about the 5the qualifier. Thank god I was right about an upset, I probably would have screamed at the computer screen when meisterjaan qualified over Anett kulbin.
I guess the only songs I’d be happy with winning now are Play, Seis or Immortality.
If Juri wins, he could be my new number one.
Mick and Jüri are by far the best choices for Estonia, Mick is my favourite but I think Juri is the on who’ll win, still a good choice
Pur mudd 🙁
But glad that Jüri made it!
Púr Múdd and “Meet Halfway” should have qualified…
I’m so happy Go away bird make it through
Go Away Bird YAAAAAAAAAS
YAY! Jüri Pootsman and Go Away Bird made it through to the finals, my best!
And Meisterjaan made it through! I will certainly enjoy this Parmupillihullus if it’s on the Eurovision stage lol.
One of the weakest National Finals but Juri is incredible.
Meisterjaan is absolutely ICONIC!
Annet Kulbin was robbed by Meisterjaan
Absolutely unacceptable
@Pavel And the incredibly sad part is that both songs have a REALLY strong chance to win. I hope Mick or Jüri can win this!
There was little danger of a good song being left out at this stage. No big upsets here.
Grete is just awful like Laura.
Both are amazingly awful Melodifestivalen reject songs for such a great selection of compositions
GRETE IS INCREDIBLE!
The tension when there were two names left was so bad that nothing in my face is where it is supposed to be. Before they finally announced Jüri getting through I must have sweated out all the tea I drank in the course of the week. I will have to attach myself with a security belt for the final or I will fly straight through the screen into the studio.
But…Pùr Mùdd ? Where are they? They should be in the final! Ugh…
Yessssssssss Meisterjaan made it!!!! <3
Sorry for the spamming there. My internet is just being weird…
Aww Anett Kulbin 🙁
Meisterjaan is a legitimate case of people not getting it. It’s a very specific genre and it’s so baffling that it obviously gets a lot of votes just on that. Grete Paia is such a mediocre performer, it’s kind of bizarre that the song (which in itself is not more than alright) was enough to put her through. Again with the unflattering shiny make-up like with Laura last week, but more importantly, her posture is terrible and yikes, can she sing without scrunching up her nose? Anett Kulbin delivered a fairly flawless performance that was staged with class and shot… Read more »
@Pavel whilst I do think that one of the other songs should have made it to the finals instead of Grete Paia, I was already prepared for that rather mediocre pop song to make it. What I wasn’t however ready for was that the worst song in the competition could get through to the finals…
Anett Kulbin 🙁
Go Away Bird <3 So happy about them! Also glad that Jüri and I Wear* Experiment are through. Also found a guilty pleasure here — EIOLEMULOLLA!
Please don’t pull off a finland by sending meisterjaan…
First off, MEISTERJAAN MADE IT!?!?!?!?!?!? WTF ESTONIA!
But Grete made it <3 she is gonna win <3333
I really liked I Wear* Experiment – Patience. Also Juri Pootsmann was very good.
I’m so sorry that Grete Paia made it to the finals instead of GOOD songs like Pur mudd and Anett Kulbin. Absolute pop by numbers, shouldn’t be ever applied in such an unorthodox selection.
On behalf of all Estonians, I’m so sorry that Meisterjaan made it to the finals instead of GOOD songs like Pur mudd and Anett Kulbin.
On the other had 4/5 of my favorites from this semi made it to the final so that’s good. I predict a tight race between Grete, Laura and Jüri. (keeping them crossed for Jüri though)
