Wiwi readers have spoken! After 933 votes were cast in our Moldova poll, you have decided that Lidia Isac and Doinita Gherman are your frontrunners of O melodie pentru Europa 2016. But who should bite the dust?

The frontrunners

First things first, Lidia Isac leads the way with almost a quarter of the votes (217) cast for her song “Falling Stars”. Despite a questionably shaky performance at the live audition, the dance track that was penned by some of Polina Gagarina’s “A Million Voices” team stole your hearts — and your clicks. Lidia Isac will be performing second in the second semi-final of 25 February and she is expected to sail through to the final on Saturday. And do not be surprised if she wins the whole thing on Saturday!

Another dance song, another Swedish-Moldovan co-production: Doinita Gherman‘s “Irresistible” is an unlikely mix of Melodifestivalen meets O melodie pentru Europa, with the two national finals having a spunky child together. Doinita told us that the Swedish songwriters allowed her to infuse the song with Moldovan elements, which gives “Irresistible” strength and quality as well as personality. She will perform it first at the first semi-final and she is also a sure qualifier for the final. Doinita won 14.58% of your votes (136).

Five-piece band Priza will perform their pop-rock ballad “Rewind”, which comes in third place in our poll, with 68 votes.

Felicia Dunaf, who, midway through the NF season, caused a commotion in Sweden when Anna Book was disqualified because of a song Felicia had also entered In Moldova in 2014, will perform “You And Me”, which got 6.22% of your votes.

In fifth place we find Che-MD with “Voda e cu noi”, a song which sounds like Zdob si Zdub’s long-lost child. Nonetheless, the child climbed to top five in our poll, with the help of 5.14% of your vote.

The midtable

In the middle, we find such big names like Diana Brescan, last year’s runner up Valeria Pasa, Valentin Uzun and DoReDos, but also newcomers like Andrei Ionita & Onofrei or Max Fall.

The bottom of the pack

The loser has to fall, goes the song, and after two semi-finals, 16 of the 24 acts will advance to the final, while eight acts will watch it from home. According to your preferences, these are Chriss Jeff, Nadia Mosneagu, Big Flash Sound, Viola, Beatrice, Chris Maroo, Vitalie Todirascu, and Valentina Nejel — who didn’t even manage to summon one vote, like Vitalie did. Aww! We’ll blame it on the fact that they are late arrivals, due to the withdrawals of Litesound and Elle from the Moldovan selection.
