After months of rumours, broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) has finally confirmed that The Voice Croatia winner Nina Kraljic will represent Croatia in Stockholm.

Nina has been a fan favourite to represent the Balkan country, even before Croatia had confirmed that they would be returning to Eurovision for 2016.

Last year Nina appeared to be dropping hints about a big project she had planned for the future, with rumours intensifying earlier this year. Two weeks ago it was reported that Nina was on the point of formalising her agreement to do Eurovision – and now it appear that’s all been taken care of.

Nina won the first series of The Voice in Croatia last year, including a show-stopping cover of Loreen’s “Euphoria”.

Nina sounds excited about Eurovision, telling Eurovision.TV:

“In the past year wonderful things have happened, from winning the show The Voice Croatia to three nominations in the Porin awards, and now I am going to Sweden to represent Croatia. From my participation I expect first of all a good performance, and I hope that the efforts will pay off. The most important part for me is to represent Croatia in the best light.”

Croatia last participated at Eurovision in 2013, where klapa group Klapa s Mora failed to qualify for the final. Croatia last made it to the final in 2009, where Igor Cukrov feat. Andrea Šušnjara Croatian performed “Lijepa Tena”.

Nina isn’t saying anything about her song, other than it will be “my style, with a modern twist”. The song will be released on March 9th.

What do you think of Nina Kraljic representing Croatia? Can Nina get Croatia back into the final? Share your thoughts below!

Why the political metaphors? It doesn’t make sense. Anyway, still waiting for the song to drop.

She has that “Celtic Woman” or Irish tone to her voice.

@John Christian: Speaking as an American, please don’t make these ridiculous comparisons to our politicians. Ted Cruz is the last person you should be seeing in a positive manner, Trump doesn’t deserve to have his name everywhere, and Hillary Clinton is just as much of a warmonger to be honest. I already see enough mention of these buffoons all over the news, and a Eurovision juxtaposition is completely unecessary.

I’m glad that Croatia chose Kraljic.

Her voice is good but nothing special, its something you hear in all these different talentshows. When i watch her perform, i do not see a ‘star’ standing there, just a nice singer. Really depends on the song ofcourse and i will give it a chance for sure. I expect something good but not a winner.

I have high hopes for her. If she can find the perfect song to go with the voice, she could do really well and give Croatia it’s best spot for years.
Welcome back!

I am so happy that she is to represent Croatia! I have just one problem. Why are powerful, amazing acts all in semi-final? Semi-final 2 has amazing entries but let’s face it in semi-final 1 the fight will be bigger. Eight of them have to be eliminated. 🙁 This is not fair, but I hope it will be the fairest it can be.

On a side note I noticed that Russia has always participated in semi-final 1. Is there something I am not aware of?

@dutchie yup, “The Donald Trumps” sounds like a good band name for a joke entry to the Eurovision and speaking of which, I miss those joke entries.

Can we ban that broken record on here? Thanks. If you have nothing to back up your words up dude, than just go!

Anyway, I like her voice. Can’t wait for her song to be released.

The Donald Trumps… sounds like a great idea for a band.

I like Nina Kraljic’ voice. That song is also pretty magical, if her Eurovision entry is like this it will certainly stand out.

@Daan

I am making a grudge over him, and not just that weak Douwe Bob, but also Serhat, Barei, and Iveta Mukuchyan. They are all weak. If Justs wins in Latvia, we have it. FIVE DONALD TRUMPS, ALL OF THEM ARE FAILURES, ad Nina Kraljic is like Hillary Clinton, who will defeat those incompetent artists!

I can confirm that Nina is one of the best vocals in Croatia right now. She has that IT factor. If only the song is good. I wonder if she’ll sing in Croatian or English. She can do both really good.

I think that’s the only cover of Euphoria that I actually like. She nailed it! Very excited to see Nina at Eurovision.

@ John Christian,

Darlin, what did Douwe ever do to you to get you to hold such a grudge over him. He is just a 23 year old with passion for music and very talented. No idea why Serhat and Iveta also get so much hate from you. Explain yourself. And comparing a Dutch person to Donald Trump.. A Citizen of the most tolerant country called Netherlands to the most intolerant American lol…

Nontheless your biased hate is gettin old in every topic regarding SF1 so plz darlin give it a break.

@john christian
If these candidates are really as weak as you perceive them to be, things will sort themselves out, as the first semi is building up to be by far the strongest. Nina Kraljic won’t even be needed for that.

These year is going to be the best one in a while. Kaliopi, Nina Kraljic, Poli Genova, Jamala, Sergey, IRA LOSCO, Greta Salóme, Francesca Michielin, Zoe and, most likely Margaret, Avantasia, Mikael Saari and Juri Pootsman are awesome. Will be hard to make a top10.

Nina Kraljic is like Ted Cruz, the only Balkan candidate than can get rid of three Donald Trumps in the semifinals, namely, Douwe Bob, Serhat, and Iveta Mukuchyan. Good luck and get those three bastards out of qualification!
