Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — is in Romania, listening to the 12 semi-finalists of Selectia Nationala 2016. They are about to review the band Jukebox, with their song song “Come On Everybody”. Will they #ComeTogether to Stockholm or should they stay at home instead!  Let’s see what our reviewers think!

Jukebox – “Come On Everybody”

Jukebox – “Come On Everybody” reviews

William: You are not Zdob si Zdub, but you are very, very annoying. Three minutes of trumpets and clanging leaves me with a major migraine and the only part I can bear is the bridge, where the horns disappear, if only for a moment. This isn’t music. It’s noise — and very irritating noise at that.

Score: 3.5/10

Bogdan: Jukebox? Jokebox, more like! Selectia Nationala‘s joke entry  is so bad, that I simply paused it at first listen and couldn’t hit ‘play’ again for a few days. Musically it is reminiscent of Zdob si Zdub, albeit minus their brilliant post-modern approach. The lyrics are a supposedly funny commentary on Romanian village life in the Facebook age, but Eurovision viewers won’t get the joke. Just the awful ‘music’ and a vulgar title.

Score: 1/10

Deban: This ticks the comedy box whilst embracing the spirit of folklore. It is borderline unlistenable! However, parts of rural Europe adore this type of trash. In my view, this would be the death of Selectia Nationala. If this advances to Eurovision, it would mark the end of Romania’s qualifying streak.

Score: 1/10

Antranig: The best that can be said for this song is that after listening to all of them, this one is memorable. Unfortunately, it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons. It feels like a blatant copy of Zdob si Zdub and I wasn’t a fan of that to begin with. I have no idea what this song is doing in the selection — it is very weak.

Score: 2/10

Luis: I appreciate Romania’s language and culture too much to say anything positive about this. “Come on everybody” is a very weak song and I can’t imagine it performed in any other place than the last hour of an open-air dance, when everybody is drunk and ready to enjoy everything. It would take me many beers to be able to listen this song again.

Score: 0.5/10

Robyn: There are some elements of this song that are quite fun, but they are repeated to the point of tedium, effectively killing the fun. It will probably be better live, but not much. Also, I have a gift for Jukebox. It is a comma (,). Used correctly, it will magically stop the song title from sounding like a messy sexual act.

Score: 3/10

That’s just a good way of saying that whoever written “Come On Everybody” is a douche.

I laughed more than I should have while reading Robyn’s comment (the comma part). 😀
For me this is also on the bottom of my rankings although I don’t believe is that bad…but, for sure, this doesn’t belong in Eurovision World…

It does not remind me of Zdob si Zdub. Those guys are pure geniuses! This entry is beyond BAD…I wonder which jury member is the most responsible for selecting this crap…
