Last night’s Supernova 2016 national final provided some nerve-racking drama, which eventually resulted in Justs confirmed as Latvia’s Eurovision 2016 representative in Stockholm with his entry “Heartbeat”. But it was far from a one-sided final.
The published results prove that every vote counts. Catalepsia narrowly won the televoting, whilst Justs comfortably won the online voting section. As the two results were combined, there was a 3% gap between eventual winner Justs and 2nd place Catalepsia.

What do you think of the results? Could you have lived with Catalepsia at Eurovision?
Justs is the winner. Period.
Good job Latvia!
Asking if international voters can decide finals is like asking if foreigners can vote to decide your national elections. Stupid and undemocratic. Keep the international voting for ESC. Thanks.
I voted for him 😉
And probably i’ll do it again on may
Justs as Trijntje????? Don’t make me laugh.
If a lot of people are pointing “overrated” towards this year’s Eurovision songs, it should be Say Yay.
Catalepsia should have been the Latvian representative instead of Justs, who is really a socialist.
@MGR, please take several seats.
Justs was surely the most popular in Latvia.
Background must be tight, but there is no chance for tight background without tight song. Why can’t you understand it?
I liked the song but…
It’s a little bit like Anouk (here Aminata) and Trijntje (Justs). Aminata brought Latvia to the grand final and placed in top ten after six years without qualifying – like Anouk did in 2013 and subsequently became the Dutch Eurovision queen produced a broken entry of Trijtnje Oosterhuis. I hope it’s not same for Latvia!
Latvia must change song because it is impossible to made good tight staging for this crap.
So overrated
That’s what I want
That’s what I need
Feeling again
That you’re voting for meeee…
This entry has no subtlety and refinement. Only many lights. This is pure chaos. This will be to jarring for millions of viewers. No chance for success. Please accept it, instead of constantly rave.
I think that the close result is more of a result of Catalepsia’s greatness as a band than Justs’ faults. We forget that Latvian’s can’t vote for themselves in the GF, and since Justs won because of huge international support, I think we don’t need to worry about if he will still be good or not. 🙂
Yeah, likely most of the Internet vote was Latvians anyway. But international voting in the Latvian selection is nothing new – the same thing was done last year, and nobody complained about it then.
Maybe all four entries yesterday were great, and that’s why Justs get only 40% despite only three rivals in final?
You should have rules and be consistent. If Justs is great favorite of ESC and he has no haters in Latvia, why they tried destroy his result yesterday? It does not matter?
who the … voted for catalepsia
It’s not necessarily right to say that Latvians wanted Catalepsia to win Supernova. Not only international viewers used the online voting, but also the majority of Latvians, simply because it’s free or because they’re living abroad.
Omg Latvia almost messed up their big chance of winning!!!! Lol.
I really liked catalepsia and justs.
I don t like to see in national finals voting from juries from another countries (like in Sweden, Malta , sometimes in Denmark) and voting from people by internet from another countries.
I hope BBC will introduce online international votes in the future too if they decide to do another national selection.
Oh, and by the way: Eurovision would have been honored to have a gothic-doom band in a line-up. Catalepsia would have been a great Latvian representative as well. Never understimate metal bands in preselections again after this!
I don’t know what’s funnier, the drama when the eurofans found out this wasn’t quite the landslide Justs victory they all were dead certain it would be, or them bragging that their votes actually “saved” the Latvians… Does this actually have to contain 43 pop entries for you lot to be satisfied? Surely seems like it…
The song is OK and he’s a strong singer, but I “classify” like this by now at least 10 songs…Hopefully we have not heard the winner yet…
I knew it! Justs’ advantage lied in the online voting system. I’m very surprised that Catalepsia won the televote in the end. OMS!
Oh Latvia you never fail! At least online voters came through, cause Catalepsia would be staying in the semis if it went to Stockholm
There is one clear conclusion. Great favorite of odds gained a lot less new votes in final than Catalepsia. He had much bigger advantage in earlier rounds, despite he was not yet great favorite of ESC for bookies. This is really strange.
This is not good for Justs to see that she didn t won televoting in his homeland. Suprise for me is the Catalepsia won the televote in Latvia
Glad my online vote counted….from New York!
Democracy!
It’s a bit of a surprise that Catalepsia could get so many votes, it’s genre taken into consideration. However, I didn’t mind Justs winning. It has an interesting production even if it is not so much my taste. My favourite was Marta Ritova.
Btw. I have finished the next set of song reviews; Germany, UK and Hungary: http://escsongreviews.com/2016/02/29/songcheck-2016-germany-united-kingdom-hungary/
This shows (again) that Latvians have a very bad taste of music. VERY BAD.
Actually, international, or at least European, voting at a national selection makes sense. After all, the chosen song, while it represents its respective country, addresses an European audience, which is supposed to give it its vote.
This song from Catalepsia wasn’t even a good song for rocks standards to begin with… I was afraid that the latvians had returned to their old habits, and apparently they have :S
@lalalala: actually we just saved Latvia 😛 I don’t consider myself a typical eurovision fan. I like what is good, irrespective of its genre and the country it’s coming from, and Heartbeat is amazing.
I do agree with you Avantasia should have won the German selection as the song they selected will be forgotten, and Avantasia’s was amazing.
Latvia back to being Latvia from Cake to Bake again. Thank you sooooo much to the international audience that make the right choice. Including my own vote.
I like rock, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of Catalepsia. The singer didn’t sound great to be honest. Justs was by far the better choice.
Maybe it’s pity, that international fans voted. Justs has a great song, but we have so many pop songs. Catalepsia would be great at ESC, like Avantasia. We have rock only from Cyprus, Georgia and Belarus, it’s very very bad number. I would make voting only for non-ESC fans and we would have perfect edition. But ESC fans are destroying it every year with their limited taste – pop songs by female singers. Please, don’t destroy every Eurovision and don’t vote more. Your taste is awful.
Well I am glad we all used our vote. Go Justs ! 😀
awkward. :/ i’m starting to lose faith at the national voters… can we, international eurovision fans, decide each and everyone’s song please? that’d be great.
If it wasn’t for the internet votes Catalepsia would’ve won 😮 thank god we were able to vote!
