On March 3, Australia unveiled Dami Im as their Eurovision 2016 representative. The announcement was made at the Sydney Opera House as part of Conchita Wurst’s special From Vienna With Love concert. Dami performed ABBA’s “Waterloo” before Conchita closed the show with another Eurovision winner — “Rise Like a Phoenix”.

We were on the scene and afterwards just had to cosy up to the stars at the SBS after party. Both ladies were present and, after sipping on some sweet champagne, discussed the exciting events of the evening. Dami made it clear how thankful she is for the opportunity and how she is absolutely honoured to represent Australia. She was also humbled by the kind words thrown her way by Eurovision winner Conchita. “I think I’ve gained some of the winner’s energy from Conchita,” she said, clearly excited for the road ahead.

Conchita also spoke at the after party, thanking her amazing guest performers — Trevor Ashley, Courtney Act, Paul Capsis and Australia’s 2015 representative, Guy Sebastian — before speaking about Dami and adding, “I’m so happy I don’t have to be in a song contest with you!”

Some of the stars hung around afterwards to meet with fans. The Queen of Austria and Australia’s next hopeful shared a moment together.

Conchita was in fine form with drink in hand, meeting fans until the late hours of the night. She will remain in Australia until Sunday and will headline the annual Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras on Saturday night.

If there’s any Aussies wading around here (some might have been scared off by the anti-Oz hate around here), you’ll know that Dami SLAYED on the X Factor. Standing ovations at every performance with a voice sharp and powerful, conveying so much intense emotion in each word; only once did not all 4 judges return such a glowing reception. Although some might argue that her discography has gone somewhat downhill since her win (to such lows that she once had to promote her single Smile on children’s TV channel ABC3). After all, that one week without that perfect standing ovation… Read more »

@John Christian maybe SBS wanted Delta originally(she was bookies fav after all). They probably gave her a deadline to accept the invitation to ESC till last week in which she declined which is why they contacted Dami Im instead so I don’t think its really Conchita’s fault. Goodrem just didn’t want it….

Dami Im has failed to comply and repudiate her participation. If I am Conchita Wurst, I would back Delta Goodrem. But Conchita Wurst backing and announcing Dami Im as the Australian entry is a pathetic mistake.

@MGR
Dami was bron in Korean which is a typical eastern country. I think ESC is going to be more and more diverse rather than being dominated by a certain genre of music or a certain area.

West dominates ESC from several years and this domination will be even stronger this year in Stockholm, because new rules + Australia in this contest are next strengths for west.
