As if we couldn’t be excited enough about the Melodifestivalen 2016 final on Saturday, SVT have just thrown us an amazing surprise. In celebration of fifteen years of the current Melodifestivalen format, fifteen of the best and most memorable songs will be performed once again in a giant Melodifestivalen medley. Y’all, this is looking like it might be the best interval act ever. Check out the list of acts taking part below:

Melodifestivalen Medley Acts

  • DJ Mendez – “Adrenaline”
  • Mariette – “Don’t Stop Believing”
  • Timoteij – “Kom”
  • Brandsta City Släckers – “Kom o ta mig”
  • Linus Svenning – “Bröder”
  • Sarah Dawn Finer – “Moving On”
  • Magnus Carlsson – “Live Forever”
  • Caroline af Ugglas – “Snälla, snälla”
  • Andreas Johnson – “Sing for Me”
  • Nanne Grönvall – “Håll om mig”
  • Anton Ewald – “Begging”
  • Kikki & Bettan – “Vem e de du vill ha”
  • BWO – “Lay Your Love On Me”
  • Charlotte Perrelli – “Hero”
  • After Dark – “La Dolce Vita”

Obviously, there’s some familiar names and some very welcome surprises in the list. Having completed their duties as hosts for the year (or would-be hosts, at least), Sarah Dawn Finer and Charlotte Perrelli will be returning to the stage. Sarah (who will also be reprising her role as Lynda Woodruff during the final) is performing her Melodifestivalen 2009 song, “Moving On“. Charlotte, meanwhile, will be bringing us back to 2008 with her winning song, “Hero“. Let’s just hope that the alien grey screen doesn’t make an appearance…

Perhaps the biggest surprise though is BWO being on the list. The band have not performed togther since they took a hiatus in 2010. Both Alexander Bard (as part of Army of Lovers) and Martin Rolinski took part in 2013, but neither were able to reach the final. “Lay Your Love on Me” was their 2008 entry, finishing 3rd behind Charlotte and Sanna Nielsen’s “Empty Room”. Could we see BWO return to the competition in 2017 after this medley?

It’s not the first time SVT have used a medley as an interval act, of course. In 2010, ahead of Norway hosting Eurovision, we were treated to a Norway vs. Sweden medley:

What do you think of the interval act idea and who are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments section below!

Yes yes yes @ Nanne Gronvall. “Hall om mig” should have went to Eurovision in 2005 instead of “Las Vegas”. Great song, hope she still knows how to scream.

@Hey! Swedish House Mafia – antidote? 🙂 if someone will perform that kind of music I’ll applaud. why no one takes to the floor good electronic music rather drags all kind of silly pop out of their granny’s closet? it’s unfair

Ugh!!! I’m hoping for Avicii, Tove Lo, Swedish House Mafia, Icona Pop or Zara Larsson as interval acts for Eurovision!!!!!!!! We need more international household names if Eurovision wants to be taken seriously in certain countries.

@Pavel: Good call mentioning “Bed On Fire”, easily one of the best songs of the entire 2013 season… Appalling how that cheap “Begging” crap was chosen instead…

Hmm Timoteij, the last ever girl group to reach the finals. Btw why is Anton Ewald there? guess they couldn’t book Saade(he’s one of the most influential Melfest acts; every year you will find 1-2 acts that take on his ‘hearthrob’ role)

Every healthy mentally person sees that it will be not a one-horse race. It will be duel between Frans and Samir & Viktor. They will get many points from both jury and viewers. Also some record may be executed.

He is not only a parody maker. He is also a great singer. Here is an acapella medley of melfest winners since 2002:

They forgot Alcazar. Or as Alcazar is called by Daniel Norberg, a famous parody maker on youtube, Alcatraz. If you understand swedish, you will think those parodies are funny. The latest Melfest parody came out for 7 hours ago, it is the final recap.

I find Medleys kinda lazy. It’s like:

Producer: OK, we need an interval act but what should we do?
Producer #2: Eh, let’s have former performers sing snippets of previous hits?
Producer: Sure. Book it.

Either way, I’m hyped for some of these names.

I would have changed/added this three:
Salem Al Fakir – “Keep On Walking” (to show indie side of the Melodifestivalen)
Ralph Gyllenhammar – “Bed On Fire” (to show rock/metal side of the Melodifestivalen)
Sean Banan – “Copacabanana” (probably one of the best comedic entries)

Every time I see a picture of Charlotte Perrelli, she looks even scarier than before. This woman should not be allowed BY LAW to approach a plastic surgeon ever again. It won’t be long until she turns into a piece of plastic.
