For years Boris René dazzled on the football pitch, but his talent goes beyond those balls. He recently wowed the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals — with his song “Put Your Love On Me” and nabbed a spot in the Melodifestivalen final after slaying at Andra Chansen. In between courses at the lavish welcome party on Wednesday evening, he paused to catch up with wiwiblogger William.

Looking dapper in a monochrome, Boris was a real charmer! And he isn’t afraid to speak the truth. What did he think of his song on first listen? “I wasn’t that impressed,” he says. “When my producer first got on the piano and started to play the first few bars, I said. Aarhh…that’s too cheesy! I don’t know if I want to do that.” Thankfully his producer said that he’d withdraw from Melodifestivalen if Boris didn’t sing it — and now he’s winning over legions of new fans.

He has the best song in the final, and I really hope he pulls of a shock victory. It’s the full package – catchy song, great voice, great performer, lots of charisma, handsome – nothing would stop him from winning ESC2016!!
