The wait is over and we finally know who will represent the Czech Republic at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. Broadcaster Ceska Televize has confirmed that Gabriela Guncikova is the representative for 2016, and will perform her song “I Stand”.
Earlier in the month, Ceska Televize dropped a hint about the singer who will fly the Czech flag in front of Europe. The “G” logo led fans to speculate that Gabriela Guncikova was the one, a long-term fan favourite to represent her country.
Czech Televize appointed a five-person jury to choose the Czech representative and their pick went to Gabriela Gunickova.
Last February, she was in Stockholm “working on something very special”. According to the broadcaster, the song is penned by a Swedish-Irish trio who has previous experience with Eurovision.
The song and video will be released Friday, March 11 at 14:00 CET. In the meantime, there’s a 30-second snippet to listen to.
Speaking of her participation, here’s what Gabriela had to say:
“For me, it is first of all a great honour. This contest has great history and this is the only project of such a big scale, which focuses on the musical taste of the whole Europe. It is like a European Super Bowl in sports, but here it is about the best song and its presentation.”
Gabriela Guncíková – “I Stand” (preview)
Born in 1993, Gabriela rose to fame on SuperStar, the Czech and Slovak version of Idol, where she placed second and made a name for herself in both countries thanks to her powerful rock voice and incredible charm. Following her journey, she released two successful albums, Dvojí tvár in 2011 and Celkem jiná in 2013
In 2014, she traveled to the US and began taking courses in the famous Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy where she says she learned how to control her voice better and gave it more power. She also recorded YouTube covers of famous rock songs, which racked up thousands of views. Later she joined the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in a tour all over the United States and moved the American crowd with her powerful vocals.
What do you think? Can Gabriela take the Czech Republic to the Eurovision final for the first time ever? Could she win the whole thing? Let us know in the comments section below!
Semi final 1 just keeps getting better 😛 I hope Bulgaria will have an amazing song, they would definitely pass from that semi.

Czech tabloid has already revealed the whole song … What a voice !!! :O
Snippet doesn’t sound bad. Could be good! I really hope Czech Republic will finally qualify! It’s a very weak year so far with all these cheap Heroes copycats, so they can do it!
Okay..I thought this year was gonna be a really good year at one point BUT, all the recently-announced songs sound the same and all are sung in English. BORING.
come on Ira Losco, unveil your song
i’ve seen a sneak peek of her album cover, it has Ira with a guitar on the cover
Czechs had a better song last year, more classy
Gabriela is a good talented singer, but time will tell how good of a live performer she is
the best live performers i know are
Kaliopi
Ira Losco, if she has the right song for her voice
Poli Genova, also a good live performer
It sounds like Australia! I couldn’t tell which is which one ????
Sounds promising, I’m expecting something good. It’s obvious that the Czech Republic are trying so hard to qualify, and I think this might be their year.
Semi final 1 has less songs but they’re better. This does sound good though. This could be their first ever qualification!!!!
Probably another non qualification to the finals for the Czech Republic…
When is Poli Genova announcing her song?
This definitely sounds promising.
Looking forward to the rest of it!
Semi Final 1 was a deathmatch, even i’m not really sure Estonia would qualify. I hope this song would be strong enough to make Czech Rep. direkt till final
This sounds like it will be excessivly dramatic…… I cant wait
If she were in the first half of the semi-final, with all the bad songs there she would be a guaranteed qualifier. The second half, however, is a little stronger so it’s hard to say.
With this song they have strong chance for be first time in final. In final, I don t see Czech Republic in TOP 12.
I don’t think she can win, but this sounds promising. But The Czech Republic are in Semi 1 so even its good it may struggle. I hope they make the final though
Good Song TireSome
I was so hyped for this based off Gabriela’s songs like ‘?erný and?l’. Rock songs, powerful ones, getting to use the full strengths of her voice.
But ‘I Stand’ sounds worryingly like a Melodifestivalen ballad. I am really hoping the snippet is unrepresentative of the whole song otherwise I have to say that the Czechs chose the perfect artist for Eurovision and then wasted her, and that they’ll have no-one to blame but themselves if their NQ record is upheld.
Why send a rocker without a rock song?
Sounds good, although context is needed. Good luck, Czech Republic.
mgr: stop being so negative try to be posttive instead of being an a- holeee
Polina Gagarina and Mans Zelmerlow got above 20 million votes, while Il Volo got above 30 million votes in final. Now popularity will be lower due to a poor level of entries.
wow sounds great from the snippet can’t wait to hear the full version i loved your entry last year should have been in the final i hope you make it this year.
Crapvision Contest 2016
Next crap.
