Tbilisi is calling! Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz have released the official music video for “Midnight Gold”. The video was presented today during the Communicator program on Georgian Public Broadcaster GPB’s First Channel. It’s also the first chance to hear the studio version of the song that band will be taking to Stockholm.
The music video involves two different scenarios, shot by different directors. One scenario sees the band as mad scientists, rocking out in their lab, playing with different gadgets. The other is darker and more mysterious, with the band playing in a shadowy room while a blonde woman looks on.

One part was devised and filmed by director Temo Ezugbaia, the other part was created by Nika Kocharov and filmed by Temo Kvirkvelia, director of the Georgian Public Broadcaster. The whole video was directed by Nestan Sinjikashvili.
And it’s not just the music video that’s new. For the first time we’re hearing the studio version of the song. It’s been produced by Thomas G:son – the Swedish producer and songwriter who revamped Nina Sublatti’s “Warrior” in 2015, and who co-wrote Cyprus’ entry this year. The song was recorded in Berlin.

The main reason why I recalled that incident is the girl – very strange for killers to assault someone and to completely ignore his girl companion (a witness!), and how girl acts – she stays and does not try to escape, while completely ignored by killer. that’s exactly what happened in the real incident. in Russian speaking space everyone knows who is the client and who is the hired killer, none of them is ashamed or want to surrender in gentle hands of justice. maybe it’s just a co-incidence and Georgian had no intention to mention… Read more »

@David Who there can be hidden message, I can be wrong but… Wealthy man met good looking woman (a model, hi class prostitute), someone in clothes that looks like military (special forces) is getting paid and then he executes the man while girl is watching it terrified. have you heard a story about Boris Nemtsov, Russian opposition leader who’s been killed near Kremlin by members of Chechen special forces when he walked with his gf, model form Ukraine? you just watched it in this video in short. I doubt that Europe who loves cheap pop will consider Georgian entry as top act. I’m adding this song to my player and to my music collection and will follow this band to see if they have similar music. no illusions on voting results tho. it can happen that this act will never get to the final 🙁

I agree with The Anders, I am so happy that they kept the rough sounds! Georgia are one of my favourites, but I think this year is actually strong, so I would say the are about 20-15 in my top.
It’s my #2 of all songs.
ESC will B live. Perhaps they can catch spectators with good video when staging. I like Blur, but Oasis has never been my cupof tea. Georgia s live Entry remembers me schoolboys pretending Bluroasis. Studioversion with Video is for me far better. Hope, they ll qualify though.

Moving it up quite a few spots to the low 20s. It sounds a little more radio friendly than I previously felt, definitely very playable on niched stations. Still suffers a little from it but scores maximum on uniqueness.
I actually like it quite a bit now. It’s growing on me. I don’t think it’ll do nearly as well as Warrior, but I think it has a chance of qualifying.
It’s alright. I mean, the letdown for me is the vocalist. The part in the middle should be done with grittier vocals, but he sounds the same during that part and makes the song less exciting – all he has is the yell at the end of that part. And just when you really want to hear that riff repeat itself near the end, the last vocals come in and cut it off. Ah well, I guess the three-minute limit did that…

I loved the original, love this one too. Then again, I still play “three minutes to earth” and think this would be better if they could play it live. Will do horribly at eurovision.
I love this.
I feared that they would make the production more clean compared to the original version, but fortunately they have kept the edgy and rough sounds. I think maybe they could have taken it a bit further with some more disharmony. Still, one of my big favourites this year. It reminds me a bit of something Blur could have recorded in 1997-99 🙂 I am however worried for its result.

This song makes me uncomfortable. Is it about waking up after a repeated midnight encounter with a prostitute, or is it about waking up after having done domestic violence, murder and human experimentation?

Don’t judge me, I am REALLY starting to like this. The ONLY song this year (unless Panetoz, Boris, SaRaha or Samir & Viktor win in Melfest) which is actually FUNNY. We need that. Video is very well done and psychedelic, which fits.
I really LOVE the video and how it sounds with the studio version better than what they’ve shown before.
