When confirming Globe Arena as the host venue of Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Swedish broadcaster SVT promised that the nearby Tele2 Arena — the second biggest venue in Stockholm — would also be used in some way. Now it’s been revealed that a special screening event Eurovision The Party is being held at the arena during the grand final of the contest, hosted by Sweden’s 2014 singer Sanna Nielsen.

Tele2 Arena: where the party is

Tickets to the Eurovision grand final are virtually sold out, but don’t worry — you can still party with Eurovision fans and some Eurovision superstars! Eurovision The Party takes place at the Tele2 Arena during the grand final and will included performances from some big Swedish stars.

Back in July we came up with five suggestions for using Tele2 Arena during Eurovision 2016, but what SVT have organised is beyond even what we imagined.

As well as the grand final being broadcast on a giant 300 metre square screen, Sweden’s jury points will also be delivered from inside the event and Eurovision winners Carola and Loreen and Melodifestivalen stars Danny Saucedo and Panetoz will perform. The show will also be hosted by Sanna Nielsen who will also deliver exclusive backstage footage from the Globe.

Johan Bernhagen, the executive producer of Eurovision Song Contest 2016, told Eurovision.tv that he hopes the event will become a tradition after its debut this year. The event will start with a pre-party and will also have a special after-party after the winner has been crowned.

The tickets will go on sale this Friday, 18 March at 10:00 CET and will cost between 300 and 995 SEK (from around 30 to 100 euros). More information about the party can be found from the official website.

Leanne, just stay the extra two nights. Are you crazy? In what world would sitting at home watching it on TV be better? Are you a real Eurovision fan or not?

You always regret the things you don’t do.

Why didn’t they just use Tele2 in the first place? I wish for one day that eurovision has a bigger live audience since 2001 in the Parken

@cheesecake tele2 and friends both have terrible acoustics, globen fits way better for a televised event.

As much as I like the idea, I’m still not over the decision to host the contest in the Globen instead of Tele2 or Friends.

To stay for that party or not to stay? That’s the question. I also have tickets for the second semi final and now don’t really know what to do. If they would’ve said Wiktoria and Oscar Zia will perform instead of Panetoz and Danny Saucedo I would’ve gotten my tickets in matter of seconds, but with current performers – meh, don’t get me wrong – they are great entertainers, but most certainly don’t worth spending that much money on changing flights and booking two extra nights in the hotel.
