Minus One surprised many with the strength of their Eurovision 2016 song “Alter Ego” and its accompanying video. And while they are busy working to live up to our now very high expectations, their lead singer François Micheletto has had one slight distraction: He’s been competing on “The Voice: La plus belle voix” in France.

In FebruaryFrançois slayed his blind audition with the song “With Or Without You” by U2.

Judge Florent Pagny — a well-known French musician and actor — turned his chair, thus qualifying François for the battles.

Fellow judge Mika — who has previously compared Eurovision to merde  — did not do the same.

His battle episode aired on March 27 and once again Mr. Micheletto owned it, delivering his take on Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” with aplomb.

But his competition — the too-cool-for-school Slimane — delivered it just a bit better and François was sent packing.

François was keen to look on the bright side on his way out.

Speaking to France’s L’est republican he said: “It happened with smiles and good humor. Making the trip and coming on the show, for me it is already something huge. Competition is like this. We must be prepared for a yes, but for a no too.”

And how does competing at Eurovision differ from competing on “The Voice”?

“It is a group for Eurovision. We are a great team behind this project. ‘The Voice’ is really something very personal.”

Brrrrrrr, every live performance by him makes me less understand how he could have been selected for Eurovision or The Voice, it’s just horribly not on key, and 0 stage presence. Too bad, because the studiotrack really sounds very cool. 🙁

The Killers’ song is not better then this. This is an overcrowded market and it’s getting more difficult to come up with something unique.
Never mind, Francois!

It’s a catchy song but as one of my favourites bands is Killers,I prefer the original one.”Somebody told me”.

@ Hector

Manga was actually original. This is just a swedish rip-off of “Somebody told me” by the Killers. It’s not bad, but in reality it is just a pop song pretending to be arena rock.

‘Alter ego’ is an amazing song! I love it since the first moment I heard it. It reminds me of ‘We could be the same’, thought this last one is better. If Minus One had come before MaNGa, they could have achieved a better position because the song, style and staging would have been something new in the ESC, as MaNGa were. At the time, I think they will be in Top 15 for sure because this acts always make an impact in the audience, but who knows I really think this is an open year like 2011, and a… Read more »

Not a surprise at all. Slimane is one of the favorites this season and the semi-final and final on The Voice is planned during Eurovision weeks.

This is my opinion (TIMO)

His voice is good, he’s a nice performer. I hope Minus One manage to have a great staging. I want Cyprus to get at least a top 10, because that song rocks!
