She’s one of the bookies favourites, and yesterday Nina Kraljic finally justified her odds with her first television performance of her Eurovision song “Lighthouse”.
While on a promo visit to neighbouring Serbia, Nina delivered a delicate but powerful vocal display on morning television.
The young Croatian diva might have been only performing in the corner of a television studio, but she owned the stage, and showed off the vocal talent that took her to victory on The Voice of Croatia.
Wearing a charcoal grey suit with an on-trend turquoise choker necklace, Nina brought seapunk realness with her blue hair, perfectly complementing the nautical theme of the song.
Since she was named as Croatia’s representative for Stockholm, Nina has been keeping very busy. Earlier in the month she was awarded New Artist of the Year at Croatia’s prestigious Porin Music Awards.
Nina has also filmed a music video for “Lighthouse”, following on from the official lyric video released earlier in March. The video has been directed by prolific Croatian music video director Filip Filkovic.
A teaser poster looks like a scenario out of a Doctor Who episode, with a sci-fi style lighthouse mysteriously hovering above planet Earth.
And with such an experienced director behind the video, we’re going to assume it will be far more successful sci-fi adventure than M I H A I’s disastrous “Paradisio” video.
There’s no release date yet for the video, but Nina is promising more details will be coming “soon”.
What do you think of Nina’s live performance? And what what will her mysterious music video deliver? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
Hands down the most beautiful voice this year… I can`t believe this is live performance. She`s fantastic!!!!
Excellent performance. Lyrics are too embarrassing to listen to.
That was terrible in every way. Not that she can do much with such a bland, boring song.
It might be a little for interesting if Nina didn’t just stand there, clutching the microphone.
Her blue hair is the only thing that is not mundane about this entry.
Someone wrote on the youtube: “. . . This is not one of those classic Eurovision pop songs that you sell on weekly pop charts, this song has some kind of art in it . . .” I totally agree. “Lighthouse” is atmosferic, yet subtle piece of art and the song itself is very hard to perform. Big kudos to Nina for excellent performance of “Lighthouse” in such awkward conditions and it was nine o’clock in the morning. Come on, people?! What more do you want from the “Early Morning TV show”?! I really like her. She`s a different kind… Read more »
I didn’t care much for this entry before I heard this performance. The studio version kills off some of the personality in her voice – one of the audio engineers seems to have overprocessed her delicate vibrato. She really kicks ass live though. Go Nina!
Unfortunately, Croatia has suddenly dropped like a stone in the betting odds, all the way out of the top 10… if it’s because of this performance, that’s just dumb. She will rock the live show.
What vocals! She is a spectacular vocalist and this song is just plain magic. If this is what it looks and sounds like in a talk show, one can only imagine how wonderful it could be on an ESC stage. Definitely top10 material.
I’m sorry but she disappointed me, she really did :S
She sings well but she really needs to come across as a true artist and on this video I just get the feeling of a very bland karaoke singer.
The Croatian song, as it is, and the whole entry are too overrated by bookies at the moment. It is maybe nice singing, but not a strong voice and not a strong charisma to steal attention of a large audience (like 10 000 people). The song also maybe is nice, but completely ordinary by itself. It can pass through into the final – but only because of consolidated Balkans voting; and the entry surely won’t reach high place there. I can’t say that her voice wasn’t nice at that live performance, but when she’s singing she gives the impression that… Read more »
All right but a bit stationary, but I suppose that’s expected from such a demanding song to sing. Reminds me a bit of Denmark’s Simone which ultimately failed 🙁 hope she colors her hair white again, anything but that blue thingy.
Nice song, extremely boring to watch life…I do not see her in the top 10.
My Top 3 right now is:
1. spain
2. france
3. latvia
It Sounded A Bit Off During Parts Of The Song But It Was In The Morning So But Other Than That She Sounded Awesome
Better than I expected, to be honest; it’s actually very good; I have to change my rankings :). I also love the fact that she was asked by and performed for Serbian television. I usually hate these Eurovision-themes, but if this isn’t building bridges, then what is…?
Must improve, I like her song, but video is better than live….. hope she will nail it on huge stage. If singing this way, it´s nice, but not catching.
Well, to me this live version is quite odd. I start to thing that beautiful clip adds more to this song than she herself and her voice. Definitely not my favourite now.
Nice song, good voice, I’ve been waiting to see a live version.
It remains a question mark for me. She needs to bring more energy/charisma into her performance.
Nina just said it that She will go with stronger version of “Lighthouse” On stage she with her will be only back vocals and She will dress from Croatian designer.
She is preparating a lot for live performance.
And she give comment about Zara and Uncover. She said that every musician who knows anything about music will not say that this is plagiarism. Why? Simple.
Song needs to have 4 same notes in row to be plagiarism, and Lighouse has only 1 similar note with Uncover. So NO this is not plagiarism.
Oh my God! What voice! So powerful! This should win! Croatia comes with everything!!!
OMG… It was cleared! Stop saying this is plagiarism.
I usually don’t like videos of artists singing at morning, because usually our voice is different when we wake up.
Estonia always do that during the Eesti Laul (you can see a lot of videos of the national selection singers presenting at morning weeks before the contest).
But Nina’s voice is incredible. It surprised me how it sounds exactly the studio version. She’s a great performer and the song is inspiring.
Croatia definitely is in my top 3 of this year’s competition.
Wait, what? This is nine o’clock in the morning and she sounds like that?!? :O Breathtaking… So delicate and gentle, but yet so emotional and powerfull… Brilliant, just brilliant!
i thought that was fairly amazing.
Either she is the world’s best lipsyncher or that was genuinely live – and if it was genuinely live… geez. I’ve been lukewarm about this song, but what a live performance we’ll get in May!
Definitely in my top half.
Her voice reminds me so much of Dolores O’Riordan from the Cranberries. Sans the Irish accent, of course. Overall a very strong song.
Sorry but in 2.25″ second she starts shouting and quality is low…and i dont agree with the rest of comments but this song is boring and lack of passion. In addition to this, she doesnt move any part of her body and doesnt take risks, just controls her pure voice. Definitely its a song forma being played at a church or used as an ambient music. Too overrated!!!!
Uncover by Zara Larrson..
Dear lord…that was beautiful. She made me cry. Dear Nina, thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.
She’ll surely get a 12 on the jury from at least:
Slovenia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Serbia
F.Y.R. of Macedonia
And Montenegro
On televoting she’ll at least get a 12 from:
Slovenia
And Serbia.
She is my 4th favourite ATM, but I only have my full top after I see the rehearsals and this could easily go to my number 1. She needs to completely change her image though!!!!!!
Sometimes, Eurovision performances with backing vocals seem unnecessary, but Nina need them for the choruses. She is already amazing, but this will make the sound more complete. Congratulations, Croatia, for the memorable comeback!
Sing and slay
Yes, There are some parts which have the same exact notes than “Uncover” (start of the chorus specially).
I think Nina lacks of charisma as well, I can’t see this reaching top 5 in may, maybe top 10 with a good staging and all the support from their neighbors.
Dont like it at all. .. boring. … during the song I was waiting for a passion moment and I found it. Good Luck anyway!
A M A Z I N G
Tidy up the image, put on some decent staging and you have the makings of a winner. Seriously, closing my eyes and listening to it….goosebumps!
@gkgg @V stop replaying to your self buhaahhahaah.
#Zagreb2017
Bahhh¡¡ same people always criticazing¡¡ Nina sings amazingly and she deserves the grand final and a really good place in the final, song is amazing and not plagiarism XD¡¡, very deserved good place in the bookies¡¡ Black is black and white is white sirs, dont come here to detracting Nina’s talent. Good luck Croatia and kisses from Spain:)?
Now I’m sure that she is my fav this year!
@V
I have the same opinion; Lighthouse sounds like Uncover. I’m happy to hear it from someone else. I really like this song, but everytime I hear it, can’t stop thinking how similar are both songs. It cannot be denied.
And here it is where all goes downfall for me … making sure Serbia gives them those 12 in a Balkan tradition of exchanging top scores as if Yugoslavia was still alive and giving itself points … and I am not even going to dwell on this topic as far as Soviet countries are concerned … it’s sickening that they only look at their own belly button and don’t pay attention to music regardless geo-cultural-political proximity.
@V
How? I don’t hear it at all. The verses have some really small similarities, but the chorus is totally different.
During the verses, I thought she was lip-syncing cause it was way too on point, but she was a little pitchy during the choruses, which sure needs some improvement, but is promising if she sings this well. People need to stop heralding this as a winning song (not that it can’t win) but this is from Croatia, a qualification to the final would be impressive – and seems likely. Anything more than that is icing on the cake And lastly, I dont know why every time this song gets an article someone has to comment about the cheapness of Russia.… Read more »
@V – shut up already.
David Guetta wants his song back. Matt Simons, as well.
Her song is a plagiarism of Zara Larsson’s Uncover.
She’s so good live!
The only things that are missing: LED video wall, floor smoke, echo, lights, camera work and staging 🙂
She sound amazing but She need to work more to be perfect, but still the best voice and winning song, for this year.
Wow. Just wow. I can’t wait for better quality lives. Even in a ex-yugoslavian tv station she still sounds amazing!
she need some work but her voice is amzing…. personally I think that NINA worth the trophy….by far
Europe wake up and leave Russia, this need to WIN ! #ZAGREB017
She must score high in Stockholm. LIGHTHOUSE!!!!!!!!!!
OMG so amazing live performance <3
How can someone compare this amazing voice and song with cheap song from Russia ??
The best voice this year.
