Update on 4 April 2016 at 16:40 GMT: Eurovision.tv has reversed it’s earlier announcement, and the running order draw will now be revealed on FRIDAY, APRIL 8.

Original article:

It’s one of the most eagerly awaited events in the Eurovision calendar, and finally the EBU has confirmed that the running order of the two semi-finals will be announced this Tuesday, 5 April.

Back in January, host broadcaster SVT used a random draw to determine which half of the two semi-finals each country would perform in, and which semi-final each of the Big 6 would vote in.

SVT now has the task of determining the running order of the two semi-finals.

Since 2013, the running order has been determined by the producer of the show, with a final veto by the EBU – though as of 2015, the EBU have not had reason to use that veto power.

Will the Melfest post-it notes system be used?
Will the Melfest post-it notes system be used?

When determining the line-up, the show producers consider factors such as staging requirements, keeping similar songs separate, and ensuring the line-up results in a good overall show.

Superstitions surround which places are best and worst in the line-up, but since 2013, songs have qualified from all positions – even the “unlucky” second spot.

At the moment it isn’t known how the running order will be revealed, but SVT have a flair for the dramatic when it comes to reveals. The running order for the Melfest semis was announced via a live Periscope broadcast, while the order of the Melfest grand final was confirmed live during the Andra Chansen results.

How do you think the semi-finals should be ordered? Which songs will open and close each show? Share your thoughts below.

well running order doesn’t matter anything, but of course Azerbaijan will get the advantage in the draw, as well with Russia, the 2 countries who bribe other countries to vote for them 🙁

This is why I haven’t got my preview DVD yet from ebay. They have to wait for the order to be confirmed before committing it to disk.

It doesn’t matter if you sing 1st or 10th or even last. By the years and year by year people just find out that if a song is good enough to win will win anyway in whatever place it will be..from 2005-2013 the winners were on 17 – 24 spots and then i thought ok in the final it’s good to be in the last places but then 2014 winner was perfomed at 11 spot and 2015 at 10 spot so it shows that is not the number but the song!

Bonsoir Stockholm,

They should perform a complete draw to determine the running order. I don’t like this running order determined by the producers. This is bad. In the final it is crucial. Singing first is almost sure to lose. Then if I could decide, I would give my country a good spot and dangerous rivals a bad one.
Scandinavian countries are good at this game and give always France a bad spot. I am definitely scared for the final.
Cordially yours,
Maxime

There will be the typical big openers and closers. I could actually see Russia opening Semi-Final 1 and Iceland closing it. Both are great tunes everyone will want to see, and Russia really gets the pace going whilst the ending to ‘Hear them Calling’ is quite momentous.

As for Semi-Final 2 I can see them opening with Lithuania or Ireland and closing with Bulgaria or Norway.
