Last week we launched Alternative Eurovision, our search to determine the best other song by our beloved Eurovision 2016 artists. In semi-final one we offered you sexy beach babes, satanic rock anthems, egoistic electro-swing and a whole lot more. Nineteen acts competed, but only ten will make it to the grand finale – decided purely by your votes, cast from all over Europe, and beyond.
During the 72-hour voting period you guys cast a total of 3,809 votes. In order to preserve the integrity of the grand final voting, we aren’t revealing the breakdown of the votes just yet. Instead we are merely revealing the 10 qualifiers — and in random order. They are…
Hungary: Freddie “Mary Joe”
Austria: Zoë “Adieu”
Russia: Sergey Lazarev “7 Wonders”
Iceland: Greta Salóme “We Are”
Estonia: Jüri Pootsmann “I Remember U”
Malta: Ira Losco “Shoudn’t Have To Bother”
Czech Republic: Gabriela Gunciková “Cerny andel”
Croatia: Nina Kraljic “Zaljuljali Smo Svijet”
Netherlands: Douwe Bob “Can’t Slow Down”
Armenia: Iveta Mukuchyan “Summer Rain”
These ten countries will join France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden in the grand final. Unfortunately this means that we must say goodbye to eight countries – see how they fared in the voting below:
- Greece: Argo “Den mou kaneis” 4% (138 votes)
- San Marino: Serhat “Je M’adore” 4% (135 votes)
- Cyprus: Minus One “Shine” 3% (120 votes)
- Azerbaijan: Samra “O sevir” 3% (119 votes)
- Finland: Sandhja “Hold Me” 3% (112 votes)
- Moldova: Lidia Isac “I Can’t Breathe” 2% (93 votes)
- Bosnia & Herzegovina: Deen “Deset Miliona Ljubavi” 1% (47 votes)
- Montenegro: Highway “Sam” 1% (34 votes)
Stay tuned for semi-final 2, coming soon!
Armenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia and Malta
Sergey is the best, I really like 7 wonders and Russian version this song – 7 tsifr:)
I think the chorus of Sergey’s 7 wonders sounds similar to Adam Lambert’s If I Had You. Coincidence? 🙂
wish douwe bob’s pass it on or sweet sunshine were in this which are imo some of his best songs but i guess can’t slow down in ok too
no Serhat ((((((((((((((((((((
@Nicky91 I didn’t say anything bad about Douwe Bob. I like both of his songs and I enjoyed his live performance in Amsterdam, too. However, you already know that I don’t like those women’s ESC songs. Unlike in Jury’s case, these videos didn’t convince me to reconsider my “bad” opinion about them. Nor their live performances. So you don’t have to call me to account for not liking them every time. You wrote earlier somewhere that you like Azerbaijan too. It is 43th on my list!!! Samra’ s song is a joke and she isn’t a talented singer. She has… Read more »
@John Doe
well Greta isn’t overrated, i like her in the duo with Jonsi with the song Never Forget
and Ira is also a good live performer/singer
Douwe is a good singer, i’m growing to his song 🙂
Avantasia should participate for Germany with “Mystery of a blood red rose”, and Darline should represent UK.

But if you select “Who’s da man” for Frans, I’ll be happy
These are more or less the countries I would like to qualify at the actual ESC. Actually I don’t care, as long as the Netherlands and Czech Republic go through. That’d be even better if the Land of Cheaters/Azerbaijan and Russia fail to qualify, but that’s not going to happen.
I like Iveta’s ESC song and her voice, but I do not like ‘summer rain’. Douwe Bob’s songs are almost identical. Nina’s ‘Lighthouse’ was a disappointment in live. Something was missing. I like both songs tho’. Gabriela’s songs are good, although, they are not my cup of tea. Jury is a pleasant surprise. This song and the video are great. However, I do not really like his ESC performance. They way he moves is grotesque. Sergey, another ‘I have heard a similar song before’ song. Zoe’s ESC song isn’t great. I do not like her voice either (too girlish). But… Read more »
Zoé = Great
Nina = beautiful voice
Serguez = fake smile
Did anyone really listen to Sandhja’s Hold me? That’s what I thought…
No Serhat, our distinguished troll?
This should’ve been a sTROLL to victory.
I’m done with this alternative contest.
#justiceforserhat 🙁
Good results 🙂 All the songs I like made it to the finals and all the songs I don’t like stays in semi.
Interestingly, I wouldn’t mind seeing the exact same outcome with the actual results. All seven of my favorites are in the pass, along with obvious passes Russia and Malta and usually sucessful Armenia. Me likey 🙂
Serbia singer Sanja also have videos with her group Zaa, but you did not include her in this contest for second semifinal.
