Performing at the London Eurovision Party was Latvia’s act Justs, as well as his songwriter and Latvia’s 2015 act Aminata. We caught up with the Latvian singers and found out about Justs’ Eurovision journey, Aminata’s role as a songwriter, and got the inside info on their new releases.

“We haven’t stopped working since Supernova”

Wiwiblogger Chris sat down for a chat with Justs, who described his Eurovision experience as being similar to his Supernova journey, only bigger. “We haven’t stopped working since Supernova.”

Latvia’s golden boy has been busy playing the pre-parties in Riga and Amsterdam, and he says it’s good preparation for Eurovision – not just because of the performance opportunity, but all the media encounters.

When he’s not busy with Eurovision promo, Justs has been working on his new album, which he says won’t necessarily sound like “Heartbeat”. He explained, “It is her song and you can feel it. Right now I’m trying to do a bit more my thing, my music.”

Later that evening, Justs gave the audience a taste of one of his new tracks, “Fly Away”, along with his Eurovision entry “Heartbeat”.

“It took an hour to write Heartbeat”

Meanwhile, wiwiblogger Deban got to work making Aminata a cocktail, where she said she was to happy to have been invited to the London Eurovision Party.

Looking back to 2015, Aminata says it was really nice when Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia all qualified for the final. “We were proud of ourselves, that all three Baltic states were together in the final.” And she’s kept in touch with her 2015 neighbours.

It took Aminata just one hour to write the basis of “Heartbeat”. She’d decided to write a song for someone else to sing, and very quickly decided that it would suit Justs and got hold of him.”I started to think who I could give the song to – and the answer came immediately. It was like ‘Justs. Oh, ok.'”

Aminata is working on her second album Red Moon which will be released in October, but her debut album Inner Voice is due to be released internationally this month. She performed new single “Fighter” later that evening, along with her Eurovision song “Love Injected”.

I’m not a songwriter, so I don’t know how much time does it take to write a good song. I guess a lot depends on the writer, but one hour? Come on. That sounds lazy. Imagine what she could have done if she wrote it for a whole day LOL

Great song but I don’t think Justs is very good at promoting it. “It is her song”.

@Sonic0201 – “It took an hour to write Heartbeat”
Now I understand everything.

I have to agree. In my opinion, it is lyrically not a strong song and that is the reason it lingers in my 33’rd place. Obviously very loved by fans and most likely it will pass into finals, but really not my type of music.

It sounds like it was written in 30 minutes so I believe her.Still, I prefer Heartbeat over Love Injected.

Still my 2nd favorite. The song is just incredible.
I hope his debut album will be as good, since Aminata’s “Inner Voice” actually disappointed me.

It’s funny, my worst songs are the ones that get re-written week after week. But my best song? Written in 30 minutes. Straight from the heart. 🙂
Grete – what beats have supposedly been ripped off here? Please clarify.

I would say “It shows”, but Sia writes songs in 30 minutes and… well.

You can write a song in an hour when you rip off the beats from other songs

“It took an hour to write heartbeat.”
Yeah, I can hear that.
You have never heard the proverb: “These things take time to do right” ????
