As the Eurovision promo season continues, Sergey Lazarev brought a twist to the usual television appearances. He performed in the middle of a fashion catwalk as part of Greek music channel MAD TV’s MADwalk event.

MAD TV might not have hosted a national final for Greece this year, but they had another way of bringing some Eurovision realness to Greece. Sergey’s performance was part of the show for the collection of Greek pop star, former The Voice of Greece coach and Greece’s 2014 national final co-host Despina Vandi.

Sergey and Despina are old friends, and she explained that while her loyalties lay with Greece, she still supported Sergey, especially with the Greek creative team behind his Eurovision entry.

As Despina’s models took to the catwalk with pieces from her collection, Sergey performed his Eurovision song atop a plinth. While he wasn’t accompanied by his usual dancers, he still managed to command the audience.

Dressed all in black (this was a fashion event, after all), Sergey rocked atop his box. Visuals from the “You’re The Only One” music video played in the background, with drama added from a fireworks curtain behind him. The action intensified when the plinth began to rise, making sure all eyes were on him.

This isn’t the first time an act with a Eurovision connection has been the star of a fashion show. In 2013, Eesti Laul finalists Winny Puuh played their weird and wonderful song “Meiecundimees üks Korsakov läks eile Lätti” at Rick Owens show as part of Paris Men’s Fashion Week.

This *may* have been him miming over the top of the studio record. If it’s truly live vocals then it was flawless, but i suspect not. Still, the performance worked well, with more of a focus on him in the centre. I’m not saying “bring a fashion show,” but do something similar, as this was a ‘step up’ from some of the other live performances recently, pardon the pun.

@karminowe.usta: Your deep passionate desire for all the visual effects surrounding Sergey is the only thing your brain is focused on … may I ask: where is the song in all this? Or have your eyes blindfolded your ability to listen? Even with staging and circus and whatever crap there can be thrown onto the stage … this is STILL a song contest. Therefore: FOCUS on the song .. otherwise so many episodes of the Real Housewives of God knows where for you to watch instead.

Sergey would be winner:) I feel his performance would be similar like this. Russia would show special effects (“Thunder and lightning it`s getting exciting”). Perhaps Sergey would be show without dancers. Good visualization and special effects and Eurovision 2017 would be in Moscow:)

@ts: And I am supposed to give a s*** about your opinion because???? Try give me some Kathy Griffin joke if you can … because as far as I know my mother taught better than being in denial #shade. I am still wondering who is paying the electric bill. Not you I am sure 🙂
