Agnete isn’t the only Norwegian Eurovision star to embrace the cold for the sake of music. Kjetil Mørland, one half of Norway’s Eurovision 2015 musical duo Mørland and Debrah Scarlett, took to the winter wilderness to shoot the official video for his latest single “Skin”.

Released back in February, “Skin” is a very personal track. Self-written and produced, it opens with strings, ushering in a cinematic feeling. The music video which features his clan of relatives follows a similar film format. Clearly avoiding the EDM trends, the song tackles a more serious subject matter — the demise and untimely death of Mørland’s mother through cancer.

Mørland himself explains the meaning behind the song:

This song is the most personal I’ve written to date. I lost my mother who had been ill with cancer for many years. A lot of the songs on my upcoming album are written in this period and “Skin” is probably the one that best describes the mood right after she passed. She had a very positive outlook on life and didn’t want us to mourn her.

This may not be obvious from the sombre tone, but the lyrics support his explanation. His mother may not be there in the flesh, but her spirit lives on. “Although I’m not in my skin, I won’t miss a thing — don’t ever cry for me my boy. Although I’m not on my feet I’ll walk down the street wherever you may be, my boy, my boy”. These lyrics touch the heart.

A beautiful record by any measure, the music video showcases the beauty of Norway during the winter season. Simply breathtaking!

Mørland – Skin lyrics

A crowd of people standing in
A row to let the family know
How sad it is to see her go
And between the roses, yeah I swear
There must have been an angel there
I heard her as clear as day

Although I’m not in my skin I won’t miss a thing
Don’t ever cry for me
Although I’m not on my feet I’ll walk down the street
Whereever you may be, my boy my boy

And the wisper in the autumn leaves
The swallow sailing over me
It feels more like a dream
And the sky a deeper shade of blue
Nakes trees in solitude
I need you here with me
Here with me

Although I’m not in my skin I won’t miss a thing
Don’t ever cry for me
Although I’m not on my feet I’ll walk down the street
Whereever you may be, my boy my boy

Walk on
She’s waiting for you
Go on son
She’s waiting for you
And my love is waiting on the other side
On the other side

Although I’m not in my skin I won’t miss a thing
Don’t ever cry for me
Although I’m not on my feet I’ll walk down the street
Whereever you may be, my boy my boy
