She sang backing for Charlotte Perrelli at Eurovision 1999 in Jerusalem, cruised into the top three singing “Runaway” for Estonia in 2002, and now Anna Sahlene is returning to the Eurovision stage to amplify Dami Im’s “Sound of Silence” as a backing vocalist.

The Eurovision and three-time Melodifestivalen star will be working alongside long time partner Dea Norberg as backing for Australia.

Their role? “Holding up the choruses” while Dami Im goes for the crazy big notes and vocal runs we all know she’s going to slay on stage.

“It feels like a big responsibility,” the star admits but she’s also excited to be back at Eurovision because “it has so many different meanings for different people.”

Australia know what they’re doing. The duo have worked as backing vocalists at Eurovision seven times previously and although they’ll be off stage, they will be bringing serious vocal firepower into play.

Discussing why she took the job, Sahlene revealed that she felt it would “suit” her and that she “could bring something to it”. She also applauded “Sound of Silence” for keeping things relevant and chart-friendly.

Dami Im will perform in 10th position during Semi-Final 2 on May 12.
