Homeboy Frans was sticking with what worked, keeping the same Melfest staging for his song “If I Were Sorry”.

If you’ve seen Frans’ Melfest performance, then you’ve seen his Eurovision performance. Frans is keeping it low-key, relying on his boyish charms while he sings the song against a largely black background with words lit up in gold. Once again he rocked a casual look — jeans and a white top with a beige jacket, emphasising the “anti-Eurovision” style of the performance. The perfect foil to the ever-larger staging we’re seeing this year, this number draws on simplicity to elicit complex emotions.

There were no obvious adjustments or changes to the performance, and Frans was keeping his vocal relaxed. It seems that Sweden are very happy with the “If I Were Sorry” staging and Frans is set to deliver a confident performance on home turf.

No! The internationelljuries only get on instruktion from SVT. Only one, and that one is very clear. Their task is to vote for the song they belive will get the best result in ESC. That is the only one, Said Christer Björkman to Expressen this year.

Hmmm.. Eugene! You may have right about that we dont’t know if the internationall juries in sweden has the same criterias as they have in ESC. I have only heard that their task is to chose an entrie that they think will have a good chanse in ESC. I have to se i I find somthing written! Became curious!

They say its the best songs for many year. If it is, what are Russia and Ukrane do in the topp of betting odds. This are the to song who are the worst this year. Russia are Russia, it dosent matter what song they have, they always be in the topp. And the same for Ukraine. I will only cry.

In the swedish national selection there are an international jury from 11 countries whith the same task as in Eurovision. Unless all the other songs in the Mellodifestivalen was bad, which the juries said wasn’t the case, the swedish song should have a good chance to get points from the juries. Our of 27 songs was 12 songs left in the final. This is the points from the international jury:

Bosnia 12
Cyprus 12
Belarus 0
Nederlends 10
Estonia 10
Israel 8
Italien 10
Slovenia 6
France 12
Norway 6
Australien 0

I don’t understand why Eugene goes around typing “jury criteria” everywhere?
It’s not at all any jury’s criteria. It’s just your opinion dude, not a fact. No one can know for sure how the jury will vote for a certain entry until we get the full voting results.
Don’t go around turning your opinions into statical facts and don’t turn them into truths. I don’t go around pretending to know what other people will vote and like

I’ve been a fan of Frans from the start but this is just getting so BORING. He has no energy on the stage and he seems much closer to the light board than at Melfest. Not sure it’s going to capture the audience anymore especially since lots of countries are going with subtle staging rather than the big technology.

Last year: Mans got the gay vote and the kid’s vote… this year that will be split up with the kids (and espacially the teenage girl vote) going to Frans. He’ll do well. But second is the best place anyway: you did well, don’t have to answer phone calls from journalists every year and the broadcaster isn’t organising!

@ eugene: that whole “according to jury criteria” is still just your opinion, right. don’t confuse people, it’s just you

And Mans has never listened David Guetta…
The similarities with Catch & Release are almost as blatant as Lovers of the Sun Heroes.

I guess the Frans stans will never understand, so we have to wait one more week… This is not spotify, youtube, neither a popularity contest. This is the Eurovision Song Contest, where 50% of the points come from jury. You need to present a song that can compete with the others musically, technically, and vocally. You can’t say “I can sing, and I’ve got a huge voice anyway, it is just this song doesn’t contain big vocals”. The jury doesn’t care. This is a contest, you have to show what you’ve got, put your best effort into it, otherwise don’t… Read more »

À question EugeneESCEUK.
In what way are the juries tast when they judge the vocal capability? Is it in relation to the type of song? Is there any consideration if the voice has a unique expression that fits the song! I don’t medan to be rude. I’m really interested in your opinion!
I have been thinking that if Frans vocal capability is that bad how come that the internationell juries in the mellfest could give him that high score?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s Frans’ motto. And why not? Most top candidates had the same motto. Not to mention the winners:) I find it funny that people here analyse based on jury criteria. This is just a rehearsal. To say what the juries will focus on is wrong because no one knows that. The rehearsal doesn’t even count a jury criteria, only the general rehearsal counts since that’s what the actual juries go for. The public of course gets to see those thing live of course and whether you like it or not Frans is great… Read more »

Eugene , you look like Broadway lover, so what do you know about “gangsta speak”? Does all songs need to be vocally challenging? No. Does all songs need strong vocals? No. For this song Frans vocals are just perfect, nobody could sing it better. I know your statistic is close to be true, but you’re putting too much of your personal opinion in it. Comments that are full of statistic and facts should be more open. I understand that you’re considering your comments as personal opinion, but for a random person who reads it, it doesn’t sounds so.

Sorry Frans, you are up against too many better songs. singers and most of all personalities .You have to try to be warm to people. You come across as if you are not bothered about this amazing opportunity you are getting.

From the telewotes I think sweden could be as high as third best an at least top ten. How the juries will vote is more of an open book I think. If they want somthing that is klassik or mordern. If they think a unik voice whith personality is importent or looking for the best voice. (Then we should send our operasingers. ) Im convinsed that If I were sorry will get a lor of telewotes from UK, it has now been streems 2 miljon times in UK. I also belive that sweden will get a lot of televotes from… Read more »

Even if most people hate the song it does not matter as long as Frans captures his unique group of audience. Winning is a far-stretched but I can definitely see a top 10 or even top 5.

Nothing new here, and I didn’t expect much change from Melfest. SVT doesn’t want two Eurovisions in a row, and putting this out there guarantees it will not be in Sweden next year. Depending on the juries, this could be right side of the scoreboard.

I love listening to a good song and this is one of them. The pitch black background and the “fireflies” also blend very well. Frans just needs to channel a little bit more enthusiasm.

Score based on jury criteria : 10/10 Eugene, your comments makes no sense. Frans came 2nd in the jury vote. One points less than Human. Is that a bad sign? He came 2nd out of 12 entries, one point less than the winner. Sanna Nielsen came 2nd in the MF international jury vote 2014 too, with 7 point less than Ace. Was that a bad sign to? lol. This is very original. Do you think generic songs like You Are The Only One are more original? And his staging? We saw his staging last year when Mans won and we’ve… Read more »

This is the most chart-friendly song in this years contest. It has passed 30 million streams on Spotify and BBC Radio 1 played it the other day. All the ESC fans can say what they like, this is an obvious hit. Just because it’s not a fan-wank-type-of-song with a bombastic chorus doesn’t mean it’s bad. If you want a chill and modern song, you’ll vote for this. There’s no other song like If I Were Sorry this year and that will work in his favour. My vote goes to Sweden this year 🙂
