Hey, y’all! As Post-Eurovision Depression sets in, it’s time for a distraction and a good laugh. So we’ve trawled the Internet to bring you the ultimate Eurovision 2016 meme collection. Are you ready? Let’s do this!

Let’s kick it off with a tasteless #ComeTogether joke…

As all of your local commentators mentioned, the USA broadcast Eurovision for the first time…

…and of course you had to explain to your friends and family why Australia is participating again.

https://twitter.com/stratfordneymar/status/731568962769719296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

But at least they were watching. Those who weren’t watching probably had this reaction when scrolling through Twitter…

The contestants memes

Lots of you in Euro-land found similarities between this year’s acts and mainstream music and television and movies.

Belgium’s Laura Tesoro conjured up great funk numbers from the past (though not Eastern European Funk)…

Samra’s dancer reminded some of Marge Simpson…

https://twitter.com/Mouser/status/731592838216056832

Francesca Michielin appeared on stage with flowers, balloons and vegetables. She grabbed a potato in the end. The Italian delegation was well aware that the performance screamed MEME-ME!

https://twitter.com/Mouser/status/731596781918814208

Poland caused the biggest impact in Spain…

https://twitter.com/Smadrid90/status/731590030305660928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Two songs and 128,457,00 iterations of, “How come Australia participates?” later, Cyprus rocked the stage with a very Spartan look…

Sanja’s theatrical skills and dark look may seen her starring alongside Hugh Jackman very soon…

A few songs later, viewers seemed to think Sergey Lazarev was in love with his dear leader…

https://twitter.com/Gabrielin12/status/731584922620710914/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Spain — the land of Eurodramas — soon became the land of Euromemes, as Barei scrubbed the floor…

https://twitter.com/Hafelfap/status/731583360615731200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Having Ira’s face projected on the floor was a bit cringe, to be honest…

https://twitter.com/floralthetic/status/731586259882287104/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

And after her Europe went cuh-razy with Georgia!

The voting meme

Europeans love Australia’s Dami Im, but they love the country’s spokesperson just as much. Lee Lin Chin is a total Twitter star in Europe, y’all!

And by the way, does anybody know who the Spanish spokesperson was? And how did he pronounce three phrases in English without any mistakes?

The results meme

It hurts to do so poorly…

Here’s Spain asking for votes…

And then there was Russia not winning. That was a surprise to many, including the Kremlin…

But of course, the new voting system gave us the most epic moment of the night…

Unless you’re Ukrainian and ended up looking like this…

And if you were watching from Down Under, you might feel a bit Miss Colombia right now…

And finally…

See y’all next year! (Or in the part two of this post!)

@Michael I don’t care what Jamala says to Western media regarding her parents. She obviously tells them what the Western media wants to hear from Jamala. What her own parents tell is a VERY different story. Her parents have every choice to move to Ukraine or any other place if they wanted to or if their life was unbearable. The thing is they are truly happy where they are because they can compare their life as Russian citizens to their life in Ukraine two years ago. There is so much that Russia has changed for Crimeans and especially for the… Read more »

@Michael The New Wave Contest is a completely Russian (not Latvian at all) competition, has always been and always will be. It was held in Latvia because of the tradition that started a long time ago. Russia rented a concert hall in Latvia. Latvians have successfully kicked this contest out of their country two years ago for political reasons again (hahahaha). Europeans are so “nice”. So now the contest is held in Sochi and probably will move to Crimea. Nobody ever said that Jamala was a bad singer then. She was quite good. But she never had any similar success… Read more »

For a reckon: New wave is russians/latvian contest, held in Latvian. All russian show-biz gave Jamala a standing ovation several times. And now they’re talking bad things about her, her voice and song. Jamala was a good singer then, but now she became a bad one, huh? What a hypocrisy!

@anka Lazarev is the hero, but at the airport not many people invited him, in Ukraine it was crazy when Jamala arrived, so many people. You can easily find the video. Jamala’s parents are not happy tgat they live in Russians but they have no choice. They have 80years old grandad, they suffered too much to be back in Crimea that’s why they still live there, but they’re not happy with the situation. You tell lies. You can watch Jamala’s interview where she explains all this. Pls, don’t lie anymore. Before Eurovision Lazarev was hated in Russia for supporting Ukraine… Read more »

@Oxana, get it through your head – Sergey is the biggest hero in Russia. Much bigger than Jamala ever be for Ukraine. I can tell you more – Jamala can’t even dream about the success that Sergey has already had 10 years before this year’s Eurovision. And certainly this Eurovision will only serve him as a huge boost in popularity all over the world. I can’t say the same about Jamala. Jamala’s first success was at the Russian Song Contest called New Wave where she was first “discovered” under auspices of Philip Kirkorov. Ironic, isn’t it? Perhaps, not as ironic… Read more »

You forgot the YouHouHouHou memes!

Here’s one I like from the YouHouHouHou meme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9jeairZhvE (aka how everyone reacted when Estonia missed the finals)

I’m sad there weren’t any Steven Bradbury memes for Spain. He won Australia’s first gold medal in the Winter Olympics after all the other competitors fell over on the final corner.

At least there wasn’t a Downfall parody.

Although you know, considering it would have been about Russia not winning- there’s an element of terrible tasteless irony about it that would make it kinda funny…

Exactly, there’s a painful absence of #Balticboys here 😛

What about the Baltic boys? They were surely the biggest meme of 2016.

Maclaren,
I don’t have personal hate for Mario, he’s just and actor, manipulated by game owner. I even feared he’ll ruin his career after bad attempt, Russians are very mean and hateful to forgive him for something that’s out of his power.
They found justification to save him, no worries. He’s the best by people’s votes, his game can be saved. I’m glad it turned out well for him, could be much worse. We’ll recall him as Mario who saved his progress.

Oxana, this is like the nicest comment that I have ever heard from you (yeah, girl, you have a fierce reputation). I mean as nice as you could manage but still uplifting and inspiring! I am definitely the one who wishes Mario many more successful attempts

How can you possibly make a post about 2016 memes and leave out the Baltic boys?! That’s the best one!
