Move over, Måns! There is a new balloon boy in town, courtesy of Michal Szpak. Our readers have chosen Poland‘s postcard as the best of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

Ten days ago, we invited you to vote for your favourite postcard(s) of the year. Michal Szpak’s fans rallied and the “Thor version of Prince” slayed the pack.

Back in April SVT shot the Polish postcard in different locations around Warsaw, including Gdanski bridge and the parks around Lazienki Palace. It features the singer in a number of contemplative situations, before fans surround him with red and white balloons, obvs referring to the Polish flag. On one of them, Michal writes the Eurovision 2016 slogan “Come Together”. And his fans did exactly that, voting his postcard the best of this year’s contest, with 1,222 votes — or around 15% of the ballot.

Sergey Lazarev’s postcard came second with 929 votes, while SVT’s tribute to Armenia’s Iveta Mukuchyan rounded out your Top 3 with 625 votes.

Hmm… if it was diaspora, I am just wondering…..why this diaspora never worked before …only this year 🙂 Come on….this is ridiculous theory!!

Really well deserved in my opinion! As I first saw the postcard I thought “If there will ever be a prize for the best postcard, he should totally win it”…and he did! Come on, who wouldn’t like a postcard with great landscapes, a cute guy feeding a squirrel and a happy scene in the end? The perfect introduction for a great song!

If you read comments to videos of Michal on youtube, you can see that people from different countries like his song. I’m not from Poland either.

The song is really great and he has a great voice. That’s main reason why is he placed so high in televote. I don’t believe in Polish diaspora, because if it’s true that Poland only got votes from diaspora, then why Poland doesn’t end up in top 10 every year? Why Poland doesn’t have a victory? I really like the song and I’m not from Poland neither I have a Polish roots.

It is not nonsense. Exactly this as you are from Poland. You are mostly all from Poland here who like the song. Sorry but this is the truth. In the ESC you shouldn’t vote for own country. It ruins the contest and fair voting. Big shame. 🙁

Oh stop writing nonsense about the Polish diaspora. The official media said that not only Poland voted for Michal. You might as well say that for Sergey also voted only diaspora, because Russians in the world is more than the Poles. Returning to the theme postcard… I’m from Poland, I think that Poland was quaite nice postcard, but for me Norway and Australia were the best postcards <3

He had a bad song that what offended the juries 😉 The public vote was mostly diaspora. Under old system Michal would not have made it out of bottom 10. This is true result very deserving for bad song. Sorry. 90 percent of people make positive comments here are Polish origin that why he was popular because you vote for your own act and that is what wrong. You do not help yourself. You did the same in this poll. What a joke. Sorry.

I think it’s obvious that Michal is immensely popular and likeable. That comes across in the postcard. I can understand why appealed to televoters.

ella, I too am curious about that jury final. I wonder whether Michal really did so badly to justify the score from the juries?

@Blue Bell These videos are cool! He is so great! That’s why I love videos made by people from audience. The feeling is totally different when you hear all the reaction of the public. But, we shouldn’t forget that the Jury Final was held a day before the Grand Final. So, juries and public were reviewing two different performances of each artist. What if some artists weren’t that good on the day before while others were better instead. I’m sure politics was involved on some level. But, still, there could be other objective reasons that affected the results. I wish… Read more »

Maru fr, paranoid is clearly you. I haven’t said “your nickname here”. I’m asking you about your youtube account created on 17th May 2016 (yeah, you have that info hidden from others view, but still why it should stop me to see it? :)). are you saying you’re brand new Lazarev fan and Eurovision supporter who started to participate in the event on 17th May 2016 on youtube and and on 19th May 2016 here on wiwi? see? I’m giving you a chance to be honest with wiwi authors (who clearly knows more than you think about their users), and… Read more »

Sorry to say but there is nothing special about the Polish postcard.
I liked Finland and The Netherlands because the singers showed their house interior and outside where they really hang out. That’s character deepening of the artist, NOT promoting country tourism.

Instead of YT links to the final performance of Michal Szpak here you have the titels : 1. ESC 2016 Michal Szpak – Color of your life 2. Micha? Szpak , Color of your life , Eurovision ,Grand Final ,Sweden 2016,Stockholm Pls check the audience reaction :)). Have you heard the singing audience or screaming people during the official TV transmisiion ??? Nooooo, because it was hushed up. I think it was a very uncomfortable situation for the juries as they have had quite different plans for the winner of the contest. And this is the reason why Szpak was… Read more »

I somehow missed this poll. Congrats to Michal. I loved the postcard. It’s calm and cheerful at the same time. The squirrel definitely played a role in this victory:)

Funny thing…when people from other countries see Poland being called as “the best” – they immediately think it’s because of all polish people were voting him. Let me tell ya something. There are many countries and many fans voting for their countries too 🙂 Poland got the highest votes from people from all around the world so please shu.t up and enjoy the song 🙂

I’m from Italy and I voted for Poland – this guy has some magic in his eyes…I can’t describe it! His song was so true and emotional! Stop hating Poland because of him, he’s an amazing artist and I’d say the best of the Eurovision 2016 🙂

I don’t know why but for some uncomfortable for Wiwibloggs reasons my comments of 4.31pm are still under moderation and haven’t been published yet. Any political reasons???????????? So here you have it without links to YT. Why do you think diaspora has anything to do with this this voting. I’m pretty shure they have never heard about Wiwibloggs. Michal has a lot of female fans in many countries, The latest comments under the postacard poll were given by girls. And you have also to accept that not only diaspora voted in the Final – here is a private recording from… Read more »

Have Ovidiu told anyone what his postcard would look like if he would have competed. I still think EBU and TVR treated him and all those Romanians that did vote for him and all the others in selectia nationala very badly.

Observer shut up! Diaspora vote for Michal on Esc, Diaspora vote here, Diaspora blah blah blah… Why only he have best results for Poland since Edyta Gorniak (1994)? Why Cleo, Monika Kuszynska or Magda Tul were not on top3? J.K.Rowling’s husebnad vote for Michal, Hozier’s send an sms vote for him. People like his song, people like this postcard and that’s all. It’s time to accept it. It’s a people choice. Russia have more diaspora on whole world, Ukraine, Lithuania also. In Poland live “only” 38 mln ppl, it’s less then in Germany, France or UK. So be more objective… Read more »
