Every year the Eurovision Song Contest broadcast is nearly flawless. And it’s all thanks to the dozens of rehearsals that the artists, the hosts and the technical crew go through in the weeks leading up to the final. During the rehearsals and final run-throughs, there are countless mistakes, bloopers and funny moments that you can’t experience at home. Thankfully our videographer Ron Kavaler had his camera rolling non-stop during all the open rehearsals and he has compiled hilar highlights for you in our special video.
You can watch the rehearsal outtakes and bloopers video below. Among other things, you’ll see our favourite Russian Sergey Lazarev struggle with his wings, Lithuania’s Donny Montell coping with technical ish and Armenian diva Iveta Mukuchyan going a cappella.
Eurovision 2016: Rehearsal outtakes
Dami Im dismounts her box
Many viewers wondered how Australia’s Dami Im managed to dismount her huge glowing box so quickly. As you can see in our video, it took a lot of support from the stage crew — specifically two men tasked with getting her down. Our excerpt comes from the first run of the second rehearsal, at which point the stage crew were a bit uncoordinated. Poor Dami looks a tad surprised and the crew don’t know how to handle the situation either. Thankfully they were all happy and N’Sync (hey Justin) after a few takes.
Petra Mede has a laugh
Petra didn’t just have us laughing during the live shows. She also had us ROTFL-ing in most of the rehearsals, where she could go off-script and freely react to various scenarios. That’s why she has such a big part in our outtakes video — lady is fierce and fun! One of the highlights is her practicing chit chat in the empty green room while pretending she’s talking to the artists. Words cannot explain — you must watch for yourself and see Petra in her element.
Måns Zelmerlöw battles his jacket
Måns can certainly “sell us some love” as Lynda Woodruff likes to say, but he also gave us plenty of good entertainment and more than a few laughs. Calm, cool and collected Måns had to contend with some problems during his rehearsals, especially during his medley of “Fire In The Rain” and “Heroes”, where he learned that taking off a jacket can be a very complicated task when there are wires all over your back. In his first run-through he had to stop and start all over again and it almost happened again during the second run-through. But Måns is a real hero and he managed to get the jacket off without causing any damage to his sound equipment.
The stand-in portion in a production as large as the Eurovision Song Contest is very important, but it’s also so much fun. In our video we bring you the funniest crew members who took a seat in the green room, sang their hearts out and expressed their love for the viewers. If you watch the full video, you can also enjoy some fake jury spokespeople having a laugh with Petra. You can also enjoy the most celebrated stand-in of the show — aka, the Justin Timberlake stand-in — Edward af Sillén, the scriptwriter of Eurovision 2016.

I vaguely carry coke, with pain and pleasure mixed in one bowl
I vaguely can recall pain and pleasue mixing in one bowl

I was 99% sure that Italy was negotiating about withdrawing, but no
