Only days after Joe and Jake’s disappointing finish in 24th place, UK television presenter Rylan Clark-Neal was looking to Eurovision 2017, declaring that he would definitely do Eurovision, if given the opportunity. Rylan, who came to fame on The X Factor in 2012 where he finished fifth, is best known in the UK for his work as a television presenter, rather than as a singer.

Speaking on This Morning, Rylan explained, “There is a little part of me that thinks I’ve done muggier stuff before. I would love it.” He then said he’d only consider doing it if his This Morning co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Ben Shephard joined him on stage as dancers. They jokingly agreed.

In his early years, Rylan worked in several Take That and Westlife tribute bands in Ibiza, and was also part of a boyband called 4bidden.

Rylan came to fame in the UK for his appearance on The X Factor in 2012, where he was known less for his singing ability and more for his theatrical performance style. Especially memorable was Rylan’s extreme emotional reaction at Judges Houses, where he was told he was going through to live shows.

But Rylan also delivered highly entertaining live performances on the show. Even though he wasn’t the strongest vocalist of the series, he established himself as an audience favourite, which took him to finishing in fifth place.

This is not the first time that Rylan has expressed a desire to enter Eurovision. In 2013, he told Star Magazine, “I would love to do Eurovision. I’ve grown up with it. But it would have to be done the right way, not one of these soppy f***ing songs that Andrew Lloyd Webber keeps writing.”

Despite the BBC’s efforts to improve their results at Eurovision, in recent years the UK have consistently placed in the lower end of the scoreboard, disappointing British Eurovision fans.

What do you think? Can Rylan turn around the UK’s fortunes at Eurovision? Or should he stick to television presenting? Share your thoughts below.

As crazy as it sounds but I feel Rylan would be perfect for eurovision just because it is so camp and the is no reason for people to hate him

United Kingdom must choose better songs because songs from 2015 and 2016 are very weak. Maybe EBU should give up with Big Five. All countries should battle to Grand Final. Then United Kingdom must send good songs.

@Kat: There’s something you haven’t tried: sending a good song. 🙂 Joe & Jake would have killed with a good tune, instead of that bland song of theirs…

Lol at the amount of people in the comments who think Rylan is being serious. I think he’s just having a laugh at the idea of going to Eurovision.

And even if he is actually being serious it’d be kinda funny, we couldn’t do any worse than usual. xD

Oh hell no. Anything but. This guy is excruciating! This is a surefire way of providing the UK with a score on par with Jemini. Could we do worse than no points? I think it would somehow be a possibility if we stoop as low as sending this ITV quasi-celebrity complete with his plastic face and interesting new dialect of the English language

Well, we’ve tried everything else, the worst that can possibly happen is we remain relegated to the right hand side of the scoreboard, so it’s not like there’s much to loose :’)

Why not? Think we should go back to jokey, funny, camp acts as we can’t get out of the bottom 3 with serious songs that we try hard with, so lets just have fun with the contest!!!!!

A terrible, terrible suggestion.

I’m sorry wiwi are even reporting on this, in the unlikely event the story might gain momentum.

Judging by what I saw on this two videos and few others – big NO from me.

However it seems that last years UK seems to ‘enjoy’ bottom 5 finishes, so maybe…

If he could sing, then yes definitely, but he can’t, so nope. Don’t do it.

His song will be a cliché of everything that was wrong with Eurovision past decade. I like Rylan, he’s funny and down to earth, but he really should stick to presenting.

Considering that the UK loves to watch Eurovision for the sole purpose of mocking it and trashing it down … I see why Ryan would want to represent such British spirit by just bringing the rubbish and the gayness-over-the-top-cliche to the stage … and gain another bottom position 🙂 Well at least Ryan would enjoy 2 weeks of fun and … lots of fun … and God knows what …. although the contest is in Ukraine, we would definitively have more fun in a more open minded country …

ummm…..yeah this won’t work. He’s an X factor alum who is affiliated with non BBC networks….fat chance of sending him. If the BBC were open to sending X factor contestants we would have likely seen some already.
