For the past few years, Ani Lorak has been serving up a whole lot of Ms. Congeniality and not much “Shady Lady”. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but we’ve always preferred the sassier version which sang for Ukraine at Eurovision 2008. However, Ani’s fierce side is making a comeback on her latest release “Ukhodi po-angliyski” or “Go Away English-style”.
And no, this isn’t a bizarre reference to Brexit. The “Korabli” hitmaker is actually singing of a breakup where she wants her man to go away quietly, like a reserved English man… one suspects she’s never experienced the delights of Geordie Shore or The Only Way Is Essex. Over a heady mix of club beats and strings she urges her ex to “go away even if you’d like to stay”. She doesn’t pull any punches — “I know it won’t be worse”. Simply put, she’s done!
But even the best laid plans go awry, at least if the official music video is to be believed. Because while Ani asks the guy to go without a fuss, he proceeds to have a full on meltdown. Champagne flutes are thrown, followed by an array of crockery and household accessories. At one point Ani tries to escape the madness by taking a nap — he sets the bed on fire! But the popstar remains unflappable. She simply holds a pillow in the flames before using it to set off the water sprinklers. She then unleashes her pet leopard on the troublemaker. Throughout the whole thing she oozes sartorial glamour, from her fur trimmed jacket to her red leather jumpsuit, right down to her shiny undergarments. The slayage is real.

It’s a marked move away from the ballads which she’s become so fond of recently. Earlier this year, she dropped “Uderzi moe serdce” or “Hold My Heart”. Despite both dealing with breakups, the two singles couldn’t be more different. By contrast to her current effort, here she’s in pain because she still loves the man. She begs him not to leave, insisting that their relationship can be saved. The song gives the friend of Sergey Lazarev and Polina Gagarina free reign to showcase her sublime vocals. But at this stage we’ve heard her do similar countless times before. The video is worth a watch if only to see Ani wander a busy highway wearing nothing but a quilt.

I really like Ani Lorak. I think her ballads are amazing:) Cooperation with Gregory Leps is very good to Ani`s career:) Her songs are more interesting and emotionally.
I recently realized how poor of a song “Shady Lady” was….. Even tho I was rooting for it, the more modern but still dated version of “You are the only one”.

It will be great. But I’m afraid that she will be booed in the Ukraine and it’s forbidden for her to be in the Ukraine due to her work in Russia.
