If Post-Eurovision Depression is hitting you hard, then you’re in luck. Because there is another P.E.D. kicking off — the Pre-Eurovision 2017 rumour Extravaganza! Yes dry those tears because the rumour mill regarding next year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is already spinning. And what better way to start than with one of the most anticipated returns of next year — Portugal!
You may remember Carlos Costa from Festival da Canção 2012 — the Portuguese national selection for Eurovision. After finishing second with the televoters and sixth overall, Carlos went on to a spectacular win at Russia’s “Pirogovsky Rassvet – International Contest for Pop Singers 2013.” His single “Sexy” lived up to its name…
CARLOS COSTA AT “FESTIVAL DA CANÇÃO” 2012
The Portuguese Idol and The Voice alumni is always keen to demonstrate his love for Eurovision and his desire to represent Portugal at the contest.
And he’s done it again on his official Facebook page, announcing he has a strong and radical song ready to go — recorded in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with a videoclip already shot.
You can call him whatever you want, but you can’t fault him for being lazy. The Portuguese singer claims he was previously contacted by the Swiss Broadcaster regarding the song, but decided to save it for a possible Portuguese opportunity.
“PIROGOVSKY RASSVET 2013” PERFOMANCE — “SEXY”
Portuguese Eurofans aren’t exactly thrilled, as they remember Carlos’ weak song and performance from the 2012 national selection.
Mr.Costa isn’t fazed and responded to the hate on Facebook.
“I would like to remind everyone that I have no responsibility for my 2012 Festival da Canção participation. I only met my composer on the night of the contest — I sang what was proposed to me without a say on the composition and development of the theme.”
He freely admits that he is controversial and eccentric, but adds he can never be called a “bad artist.”
He also promises to invest thousands of euros into his Eurovision promotional campaign.

After a series of non-qualifications, Portugal needs a radical change. Is Carlos Costa the way to go? Do you think he’d be a good Eurovision contestant? Let us know in the comments section below.
Why don’t we send someone young with modern songs and lyrics like April? A song like Be Ok from her would definitely make it to the final!
Nelly Furtado please….
Send Filipe Pinto. He is composer and a great singer. He won Idols from Portugal in 2010. Carlos Costa was in the same season and came 3rd. Filipe was the winner.
@4li3n
OK 🙂
@Rumors: With a 3rd copy pasted recycled “Canta por mim” that would only make sense in the 2000s editions, though we are in 2016 and way ahead of that rubbish?
Can anyone tell this Carlos Costa once and for all that he is no Rihanna no matter how much he tries to?
@ Alex
Please, by serously and don’t comapare Michal and Conchita.
Guys, we don’t know if Portugal will consider “Festival da Canção” or an internal selection to choose its next Eurovision entry. Actually, I’m curious what Portugal is intending to do and it’s good to know there is an artist who’s interested in Eurovision (a thing that his country has been never interested to win). I’ve never met Carlos Costa (until now), but if he wants it, he must give something better than his latest album (which sounds a little bit dated, in a bad way) or he will continue to be stereotyped through that terrible song/performance in 2012 National Final… Read more »
oh god not another Michal or Conchita. Another joke which might attract gay votes though.
I want Portugal to take it seriously like France and come back with a DECENT AND SERIOUS ARTIST and a MODERN FRESH SONG in English and Portuguese.
They can approach a more known name if they have the guts but they won’t..
NO MORE DATED CHEESY ENTRIES FROM PORTUGAL PLEASE.
let’s be honest, established artists like amor electro would never do eurovision
@ Glorious
Don’t worry, He isn’t in my wishlist to represent Portugal, I know that Portugal has other artists that can get better results than him. I’m just curious to listen his song, I just wanted to see him in the national final, but not in Eurovision of course.
@4li3n
Oh, no! Please, keep that national final away!
Carlos Costa as a great vocal, I’m curious to listen his song, but I don’t know… I hope see him in Festival da Canção.
Diogo Piçarra!!!
Listen: Diogo Piçarra – Wall of Love
These song is so catchy reminds me France this year, and yes this song is made in Portugal.
soooo portuguese michal szpak
i’ll pass
No Portugal please no!! I’m expecting an entry to propel you back into the final, giving Portugal something of a renaissance similar to France and Bulgaria this year, Netherlands in 2013 and Belgium 2015. This guy cannot bring you that, he’s too much of a gimmick, not to mention his similarity in appearance to Michal Spak, which is saying something.
Cmon Portugal, try a little harder! I keep my fingers crossed for the day that I see Eurovision hosted at the Atlantic Hall in the beautiful city of Lisbon.
Mia Rose please
and this guy can’t sing… sorry
They should invite CATARINA PEREIRA 😀
Portugal is a country I usually forget about at Eurovision. They have never sent a single favorite entry of mine! They need to get serious if they would like to qualify again. This guy doesn’t look that promising… we shall see…
I don’t know this guy, he’s like the Portuguese version of Michal Szpak ?
Dear God! This guy is a sitcom! Portugal, do not pick him
He actually sing really well, but I’m not so sure if he’s the right person to represent my country…
ah! and one more thing: Ronalda (Katia Aveiro) NO.
I’d like to watch there one of these artists: Amor Electro, Kika, Aurea, Diego Miranda/Mikkel Solnado, or even again Leonor Andrade.
Send good rock band, dear Portugal. I dont remember any good rock song from Portugal.
I’d rather see them sending Amor Electro or Kika. At least then they could really have a chance for final
What about Ronalda
