They were the most memorable act from Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2016 and the party queens of the #wiwijam. And now performance band The Hungry Hearts have paid tribute to the tragedy in Orlando with a special version of their MGP song “Laika”.

The Hungry Hearts were special guests at the Canadian Embassy’s Pride Garden Party in Oslo. It might have been a rainy afternoon, but the Hungry Hearts brought the sunshine with their trademark gold hot pants.

The group performed their MGP song “Laika”, joined on stage by the Israeli Eurovision tribute act Eurofalsh. While the song started with the familiar lyric “The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend”, it soon became “Streets of Orlando with my boyfriend” (and girlfriend). The song became a moving tribute, which added extra poignancy to the lyric, “I miss the disco, flying through the air”.

The Hungry Hearts wrote about the performance on their YouTube page:

This song is a tribute to love. It is also a comment to the challenges we as a minority stand against in an uneasy world. We dedicate this song to the many who lost their lives in the massacre in Orlando just a few days ago and to all queers with the message: True love is invincible!

The Hungry Hearts had another memorable moment at Oslo Pride. Israeli Eurovision tribute act Eurofalsh performed “Laika”, with an expert copy of the Hungry Hearts’ MGP staging.

But with the original artists in the audience, the tribute act couldn’t resist inviting a couple of the Hungry Hearts on stage to join in the fun. Because as everyone knows, the more glittery costumes on stage, the better!

And ofc “Laika” or “Feel da rush” could have done better than “Icebreaker”

@Robyn, and that smiling pile of sh*t from Switzerland, he could also easily done better than Rykka (Even though I prefered Sunanda and Platzhirsch)

“Parmupillihullus” was robbed!

Actually that could have easily done better than “Play”, since “Play” placed dead last at the whole contest! The song was great and of course Estonia was really underrated, but I think I know what made them flop. Jüri’s movements made me feel very awkward and he seemed to be rather uncomfortable on stage. Plus, the song didn’t stand out. The staging was not that good either. Of course though, it’s still a great song.

I do also remember “Parmupillihullus” from the Estonian selection, it could have in almost every way beaten “Play” in ESC(Even though I prefer “Play” by miles)

ESC Greece, I do not actually know, I started to follow the selection right before Expert Check, but when I saw that there was an artist called “Your Favourite Sh*t” I started laughed. I will never regret that I also did follow the link to the song 😀

I agree with Adam that there also could be joke entries, but not too much. 1 question, what do you think about the smiling pile of sh*t who wanted to represent Switzerland(https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xUDuphAhTH4)? If it would have competed at ESC, I would have laughed for the rest of my life

They NEED to be in Eurovision. It’s become so predictable and devoid of anything fun and humorous, it’s become waaayyyy too serious.
