Swedish Midsummer – the day when Swedes put a flower wreath on their heads, do the frog dance around a big pole made of flowers, eat their Abba herring (yes, there is a food brand called Abba!) and consume tons of alcohol. The Swedes really are unique people when it comes to traditions. And of course Swedish Melodifestivalen and Eurovision stars were right in there celebrating!

Take a look at the video below to learn more about this special tradition and watch Lynda Woodruff explain it for you (1.58). Note: sadly, this video won’t play if you’re in the United States, Australia or New Zealand. Don’t ask us why…

But fortunately the Melfest stars who celebrated the Swedish midsummer were doing it with style. Let’s take a look.

Wiktoria

??Midsommar ändå??

A post shared by W I K T O R I A (@wiktoriajohansson) on

Wiktoria, who was one of the breakout stars of Melodifestivalen 2016 with her song “Save Me”, looks like an angel with the flower wreath around her head. She is slaying that pic.

Måns Zelmerlöw

A post shared by Måns Zelmerlöw (@manszelmerlow) on

Oops he did it again! I think we are getting more used to see Måns naked than wearing clothes. Måns decided to celebrate his midsummer in a slightly more relaxed way – showing us his squatting progress from the gym. We don’t complain, do we? Bottoms up!

Molly Pettersson Hammar and Molly Sandén

GLAD MIDSOMMAR ÄLSKLINGAR

A post shared by Molly (@mollypetterssonhammar) on

Molly Pettersson Hammar and Molly Sandén, both from this years Melodifestivalen, celebrated midsummer together and looking stunning in their flower wreaths.

Carola

Carola can’t celebrate midsummer without any religious spirit. Let’s just hope the poor bumblebee got full before Carola took the flower for her wreath.

Molly and Molly again but this time with Molly S’s fiancé Danny Saucedo!

Robin Bengtsson

Årets första dopp???? Trevlig midsommar allihop???

A post shared by Robin Bengtsson (@robinbengtssons) on

Looks like Robin Bengtsson doesn’t need a “Constellation Prize” after all!

Lisa Ajax

Glad midsommar ?

A post shared by Lisa Ajax (@lisaajax) on

Lisa Ajax escaped Sweden to celebrate midsummer in LA.

Oscar Zia

Glad midsommar eller vad det nu är idag.

A post shared by Oscar Zia (@oscarzia) on

Oscar Zia kept the midsummer celebrations going well into the evening with a pool party.

Charlotte Perrelli

The Schlagerdiva herself Charlotte Perrelli enjoys the typical midsummer food – Abba sill and potatoes, but with champagne instead of the Woodruff recommended nubbe.

Viktor Frisk

While some are enjoying midsummer others are working hard – like Viktor Frisk! Instead of dancing the frog dance he decided to play at a bar in North of Sweden.

Samir Badrans

GLAD MISSOMMAR ?????????

A post shared by SAMIR BADRAN (@samirbadrans) on

And Viktor’s other half, Samir, celebrated his midsummer in a car eating plastic. Why not?

Happy Midsummer from Sweden to the rest of Europe and Australia!

Hey! Here in Latvia we also have our Midsummer celebration, called Ligo. And it is huge two day celebration. We also wear wreaths, drink a lot of beer, eat our traditional food, jump over the fire etc.

Midsummer isn’t only a Swedish thing tho, Estonia and Finland celebrate it too. Other baltic and nordic countries probably as well, but I’m not sure if it’s as huge as it is in the first three I mentioned.

oooops, the spear is actually what you think it looks like. It’s a well.known thing.
It’s meant as a symbol for “fruktbarhet”. To make things grow during summer:)

There are many people including me in Sweden, who think the traditional midsummer spear with two balls looks like a… Never mind, our family does make another kind of spear that looks like some kind of portal

Men jag visste inte att det fanns en svensk reporter här på wiwibloggs, om du är ny här, så hälsar jag Välkommen till Wiwibloggs @Tobias Engelin
