She’s a Latvian singer of Russian and Burkinabe descent, and her voice is as large as the sky.

So perhaps it’s not that big of a surprise that Miss Aminata Savadogo has decided to participate in the fifth season of The Voice of Russia.

As KP Kaliningrad reports, auditions kicked off on June 27 and the first stage has just ended, with hundreds of hopefuls coming not only from Russia, but also Belarus, Ukraine, the United States, Georgia, Cuba and, of course, Latvia.

Romance of the airports???? #travellingalone

A post shared by AMINATA (@aminata_savadogo) on

Early in her career Aminata — who placed second with the Eurovision jury in 2015 — participated in a number of Latvian talent shows, including Musikala, Koru Kari 3 and Jauna talantu Fabrika, which she won in 2013.

But surely our readers remember her most for competing in Latvia’s Eurovision pre-selections — Dziesma 2014 and Supernova 2015. She entered again in 2016 (as an author) and won.

Now she’s pursuing fame through The Voice, a path followed by other past Eurovision participants including Uzari, Youddiph and Aliona Moon. None of them won, but many went far and deep and we trust that Aminata can keep that trend going.

The TV show returns this autumn and the make-up of the jury remains a closely-guarded secret. But chances are high that Polina Gagarina will remain as one of the coaches. Will she recognise Aminata’s voice from Eurovision 2015 and turn her seat? We’ll have to wait and see…

Voice of Russia more popular in Russian than Eurovision final. ESC didn’t help her in her career in Latvia and West countries. So I think she wants to be famous in Russia. She has russian roots. Her mother of Latvian and Russian descent and she speak russian like a native

You will receive an Artist Account number and once you’ve confirmed your e-mail address, you’ll be able to customize your Artist Profile and register for an audition city. Once you’ve created your Artist Account, you must select the city you’d like to attend for the Open Call Audition.

Poor Aminata, she will compete in a extremely racist country such as Russia…russians are worldwide known for their disgusting behaviour against foreign people, specially with blacks, muslims, jews, people from Caucasus and asians. A lot of people in Russia who fits in one of those “categories” have been injuried and even lost their lives in atacks from neo-nazis groups on streets, more often in St Petersburg and Moscow.
I really hope she will get out from this adventure at least alive.

No I don’t want “Leningrad” represent Russia at ESC 2017 though it would be amusing for those who understands… well… the ALL Russian words=)) But it will never win for love or money=))
But my personal opinion is that Russia should ignore ESC 2017.

Why is he a racist? LOL Dima Bilan, Buranovskiye Babushki, Masha Katz, some members of Prime Minister, Peter Nalich are not Russians ethnically, but they are Russian citizens who have represented Russia at Eurovision.

@SummerWine=Plum — No, it makes no difference to me what Donny Montell is. I just asked a question out of curiosity.

I know very little about the Baltic states. I can locate them on a map, and I can name their capital cities. But other than that, I know very little.

So I appreciate some the information provided.

@Möhrant

For most countries the only requirement is not to have an current recording contract. In the US, the show regularly has contestants that had past record contracts, either solo or in a band. Most contestants have music industry experience, and many are working artists with a regional following. The producers want to put on a good show, so they cast proven talent.

For everyone who’s talking about the Baltic people’s Rusisan-ness: Donny Montell is not Russian, he has a very Lithuanian name and there are not many Russians living in Lithuania in general (it’s much higher in Latvia and Estonia). However, like pretty much all of the ex-Soviet states, no matter how Western they’ve become (the Baltic states have become very Western, being NATO and EU), there are still many Russians living there and Russian culture is still prevalent (although not as popular). Knowing Russian is especially important in the Baltic states as their native languages are very different from Russian and… Read more »

LOL. Your question got me thinking… I never cared if Dony Montel was Russian or not… so maybe he is? Does it change anything for you?
There are many Russian people living in the Baltic states and it used to be normal some 10-20 years ago that all Baltic population is able to speak Russian.

The Voice of Russia gives an opportunity of entering a 200 million market. The show is broadcast not only in Russia, but also in Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Baltic states. It is the second most popular TV show in Russia (after The Voice Kids of Russia) and even the Blind Auditions phase of the Voice of Russia have more viewers than Eurovision final.

@Steve, what’s the point?

With due respect to Aminata, automatic propelling to the mass market west of Latvia did not quite happen after Eurovision. The next logical step is to go East. I think it is not for the sake of the Voice per se, but for the sake of the exposure to the Russian speaking market. See it as a good thing. None of Baltic Boys from class 2016 seems to be speaking Russian which would prevent them from broadening their opportunities.

She wants to be more popular in Russia. I think that Voice more popular in Russia than ESC. Intars Busulis is amazing singer and song writer from Latvia. He took part in the third season of The Voice of Russia, he was also one of the jury members of Latvia’s Supernova 2016. Many people in Russia love him! It happened after his participating in the Voice. Good Luck Aminata! Russia would love you more, no doubt!
