In a matter of seconds, an evening of celebration turned into a night of terror.
On July 14, in an act France’s President Hollande has described as a terror incident, a truck ploughed through a crowd that had gathered in Nice for a Bastille Day fireworks display. The suspect, who police shot dead on the scene, drove for more than one mile, crushing and maiming dozens of revellers, including children. By Friday morning officials said at least 84 people had died.
Countless Eurovision stars have responded to the incident on social media, writing of their shock and horror. “I don’t understand the world,” Amir wrote on Twitter. “July 14 has become a day of national despair.” In what has become an all-too-familiar ritual, we gather his and other reactions below.

France, Turkey, I lost counting. Awful…
Such sad news. Really got no words to describe this feeling. 🙁 #PrayForNice
Shocking and horrifying times that we live in here in Europe and around the world. France has been dealt the bad hand in all of this, with attacks almost quarterly. It’s sickening and wrong and people who condone this carnage should not be tolerated by society, as they are alienating nobody but themselves. But let’s just clarify that hate never wins. Let that be terrorism or racism. People must unite together and not polarise through fear. Islam and other religions are peaceful religions. These people who carry out attacks do not have humanity. I feel sorry for France and other… Read more »
