Sorry to break it to y’all: Markus Riva does not have imminent plans to return to Supernova in 2017.

In a recent interview with Ukrainian television, the Latvian hearthrob said that his dream of competing at Eurovision is very much alive. That has led to immense speculation in the Eurosphere that he is actively crafting a bid for Supernova — Latvia’s annual national selection for Eurovision.

However, all the hype and hope is slightly misplaced. Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Markus has revealed that he is “not yet” pursuing entry — even if he absolutely adores the contest.

“I don’t have a song,” he says.

He did, however, say that he would consider returning if he has “that song” — suggesting he’s only going to enter if he has a serious chance of winning and believes in his number.

Outside of Eurovision, he has recently released a Russian-language single called “You’re In Love”, which shot straight to #1 on Latvian iTunes last week.

Markus also tells wiwibloggs that he will release a new music video in two weeks.

Once again he’s partnered with director Alan Badoev, the mastermind behind his videos for “Take Me Down” and “Krsiva Silno”.

The Dziesma and Supernova veteran has built quite the following among Eurovision fans for his singles “Take Me Down”, “I Can”, and “Lights Off”, among others.

Would you LOVE to see him back? Let us know in the comments box below.

He still needs to look for a good composer and music producer to make a good song that will compliment his voice.

Supernova 2015 was the best, great batch of songs in the final and the right winner. Take Me Down could have also went to the final in Austria, so he needs to work on something similar, not cheesy as I Can.

He has got the voice and with the perfect song, Eurovision could be heading back to Riga. But he needs THAT song, his entry from Supernova just wasn’t good for me.
Latvia is becoming one to watch though, these past two years they have come to the contest with strong, modern contemporary pop songs, worthy of the international charts and worthy of life after ESC. I believe that if Latvia want to do it, they will do it right, and Markus will need THAT song to do it right.

If he doesn’t have ‘the song’, then I don’t want him to compete. All we ask for is a great Eurovision.

His only good song was “Take Me Down”, but it was in a year with many other great songs in Latvia. “Lights On” and whatever last year’s song was called were horrible.
