In June she wrote an open letter to Kyiv’s mayor demanding that he protect the LGBT community during a Gay Pride march.
And on Saturday Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala continued to practice what she preaches, as she performed at G-A-Y inside London’s Heaven nightclub.
Before reprising her winning song “1944”, she paused to express her love for the gay community.
“I have many gay friends in Ukraine,” she said. “And these friends are like angels for me. And you are my angels now. My birds.”
The 32-year-old stunner reminded the audience that her song carries an important message.
“You know, this song, actually it’s about us. It’s about us who face oppression and tonight I want to dedicate this song to people who died in Orlando.”
Shining bright like a diamond, she wore a skin-tight pantsuit embellished with rhinestones that showed off each of her enviable curves.
In addition to singing “1944”, she absolutely slayed covers of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and Shirley Bassey’s “History Repeating”, and her own track “It’s Me, Jamala.”
Jamala — real name Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova — kindly spoke with wiwibloggs backstage after her performance.
Check back soon to hear what she had to say.
P.S. Jamala, you’re OUR angel!
Minds out of the gutter! The double-take photos that are definitely NOT what they seem at first glance
@1942
+100500. You are right.
@Julian They refuse to leave the hose because they are not crazy to leave Russia for Ukraine.
“Mum is a pianist, dad is a choir conductor, he had a band which sang traditional Crimean Tatar music and music of peoples of Central Asia.” “They, of course, are still in Crimea. All my attempts and talks have been unsuccessful. Mom can’t leave dad, dad can’t leave grandfather… It is very painful and hard. I understand that they can’t go. Pomegranate trees grows in our yard, persimmons, figs… This house cannot be so easily quit. They are not afraid even, say, to die, no matter how scary it sounds, but they refuse to leave the house.” May be funny… Read more »
@kanye: Quite the MILF, indeed.
How she could moves with these “stilts” on her feet? Lol
I hope she didn`t fall off a stage? 🙂
Strange. Many rather raumchy comments are posted here, about “sexy” and “hot” men. But nobody call “gay talk” for “dirty talk” here. But raunchy comments about sexy women are suddenly “not acceptable”
Double standards anyone?? Such things of course should be the same either way!
@Clyde
Yeah, maybe 😀
@(J)ESC: The worst? Well, it’s rather dirty I know. But well, some straight comments are needed here.
“My gay friends are like angels”. Well. ALL my friends are “angels” too me, or at least people I like a lot. (I find the word “angels” a bit OTT, but that’s just my view) Gay, straight, bi…whatever. Why separate people based on their sexual orientation.
Just like ESC itself. A contest which is a family event, an event for all kinds of people. Which has many fans among all kinds of people. It’s not a marginalized event for “special” groups.
Wiwi! You`ve already seen comments on Instagram?? 😀
She’s very sweet and her support is genuine. I love how celebrities even in that part of the world are so supportive of minorities (she’s part of a minority herself, so she knows better).
Love her! <3<3<3
@Clyde
"Best comment in this thread so far!"
It's actually the worst.
@Kanye – best comment in this thread so far!
Yes, she is pretty. I think she was a worthy winner this year. The song was really classy.
Gotta love her. She’s a wonderful person, thanks Jamala for everything. I wanted France, Australia or Bulgaria to win, but I’m happy the Ukraine did, Jamala turns out to be a very important supporter of many collectives that need a voice like hers.
Easy there, Kanye.
Btw, I think her words sound really cheesy. I mean, not because she’s using gay fans or something, but her lack of English. “Gays fans are like angels to me” lol she barely made that sentence. I love her anyway.
her nipples make me so hard that my boxers will explode
Jamala is so talented and super friendly. She ain’t a diva in a bad way. I hope she can find some success, she deserves it,
And check out her album on Spotify!
I love her energy! I respect her so much and she really tries to make the world a better place to live.
I believe Jamala said she dedicates 1944 to the people who died in Orlando (I can see that you can confuse it with London because of her accent).
