The Eurovision 2017 selection season has officially opened, and Dutch girl band O’G3NE have re-iterated their ambition to participate. And they’ve also revealed some of their plans if they are chosen to represent the Netherlands this year in Ukraine.

The group, previously known as Lisa, Amy & Shelley, already represented the Netherlands at Junior Eurovision 2007. And now they’re the big favourites to represent the country of clogs at the adult contest.

Ever since O’G3NE won The Voice of Holland two years ago, they have ranked highly on our Eurovision wishlists. They also have big support from Dutch commentator Jan Smit, who has said publicly that they should be considered.

Earlier this week the three sisters spoke with 100%NL Magazinerevealing that if they do get the chance to compete, they’ll do so on their terms and with their own style in mind. They are definitely in it to win it. They said:

“If we go, we go our way. And we certainly have an idea of how we could win….It’s all about the big picture. Everything has to be right. You are not going there to promote an album or get an international career. Only a win would count for us.”

As of early September, they haven’t received a call from AVROTROS, but they are eagerly waiting for that to happen. They aren’t particularly worried about securing a song, saying:

“Our father wrote our hit song ‘Magic’ in one day, so the song will be on time. We aren’t worrying about that.”

Last year, the Netherlands was the first country to reveal their artist, after it was leaked that country singer Douwe Bob would represent the country. However, we had to wait until March to his entry “Slow Down”.

Do you think O’G3NE should represent the Netherlands? Can these sisters slay? Let us is know in the comments below!

Send them, they can win esc 🙂 i LOVE their attitude: they want to win,nothing less. Perfect. And girl groups dont do well? They said the same about the dance genre untill Loreen entered. If O’G3NE gets picked, they will be a big contender for the win. Mark my words.

@Robyn: And then there’s the girl band Vanilla Ninja from Estonia, finishing 8th in 2005 for Switzerland.

Holland used to have a selection show, but that resulted in staying stuck in the semi final for 10 years, because the Dutch Eurovision crowd has notoriously bad taste. There were even some pretty good songs in there, but they always picked the wrong one. They would never have gone for a song like Calm After the Storm, for instance.

@marc
Oh sure, I’d like indie acts to go, but that’s more my personal taste. But the really good acts wouldn’t touch Eurovision with a ten foot pole, and Jan Smit has never heard of them anyway.

usually girl bands do not do well but since there is a lot of interest why don’t they make a selection show with 3-5 names like other countries used to do? (see Greece, Spain).

I still believe that they should prioritize Caro Emerald and then contact other artists.

@ Dutchie
I don’t know but I really don’t like them and I can’t see any potential :S
I feel Netherlands should keep sending Folk/Indie music, but in a mainstream field. Or go for some Tropical or Deep House, something like “Hey” or some sound like Sam Feldt, Deepend, Garrix and all those Dutch Dj are doing currently would be great. 😀

@marc
Of course they’re cheesy, but let’s be honest here, a lot of Eurovision acts are. Although recently the acts that do well tend to have something cool about them as well.

They’re something totally different than Douwe Bob or the Common Linnets, but hey… this is more guilty pleasure territory.

No, they shouldn’t represent The Netherlands. I think it would be a mistake having in count their last representants. I would go for something like Dotan.

Sorry xD

@jr esc nl I don’t see that x factor in O’G3NE, but it’s my opinion. I think they are too cheesy and not modern, auhentic or special enough to sand out. A nd the most important thing is they don’t have songs, any hit from there. That being said, if I I like a song from them I’ll will suport it for sure 🙂 I really want Nethetlands to win hehe 😀 (As for Dotan, I like him and I also love Hungry for example, but as always it would depend on the song… and I have a feeling Belgium… Read more »

Trijntje didn’t come off on screen, and her song was terrible. O’G3NE do have a certain x-factor, and given a decent song they could do pretty well.

I think the people who want Dotan to go are only basing their opinion on Home, the rest of his songs are pretty much identical and most of them are flops (like his last single, some kind of Olympic theme song which was utter crap).

@Jr esc nl

Yes that was a mistake, and O’G3NE are on the same way as her.. thats why I don’t think Avatros will choose them. Or at least I hope so ????.

In my opinion best choice will be DOTAN or WITHIN TEMPATION:) They can bring ESC to NL:)

well they weren’t smart enough to see that trijntje would be a total failure xD i think they never really have a plan and sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn’t.

Avatros is smart, and they know O’G3NE would be a big mistake.
Netherlands need to keep playing their own game and being authentic 😀

Um, as far as I remember from last years, AVROTROS is receiving demos from interested singers and then a special committee decides who will represent the Netherlands. Only waiting for a phonecall will lead them to nowhere.

Hmm i’m not really impressed yet… I really despise their song “wings to fly” so i hope they have something better to offer this time around.

I hope that AVROTROS chooses them! I’m a really big fan of their performances. But please come with a ballad where you can show how talented you are. Bc songs like ‘Magic’ or ‘Wings’ aren’t that great. Tip for everyone in this comment section: search OG3NE – change will come (my favourite performance)

Of course AVROTROS are in contact with them, the above video is also from an AVROTROS show which they’ve participated in for the past couple of months, presented by Jan Smit. It’s just a matter of what Jan Smit and friends want for next year in Eurovision: another cool, slightly ‘indie’ act or three sugar sweet sisters with great voices and, admittedly, less great songs.

@Craig

AVROTROS might have someone already in mind or they might need to contact O’G3NE’s people to make plans and prepare a good song.

Whichever it is, we’ll find out real quick.

Also, I didn’t know they were in JESC! Especially back in the days when the kids actually had fun! lol

I’m not a fan of girl groups and as we know, girl groups usually don’t do well in the contest. Maybe if they sang a ballad.

Um… Surely they have people, who have phones who could contact AVROTROS, rather than passively waiting around?
