We’ve been waiting and waiting to find out which city will host Eurovision 2017. And it now looks like Ukraine is finally ready to give us an answer. On Thursday the Ukrainian government published a notice for an official “briefing” tomorrow, September 9th at 12.00 CET that will reveal whether Kyiv or Odessa is the Eurovision 2017 host city.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard such a promise out of Ukraine. The saga started when an announcement was made that the host city decision would be made on August 1st. This was then postponed “indefinitely” at the end of July. Then, just two weeks ago, the announcement was all set to be made — before the press conference was called off just 20 minutes ahead of time. With all that in mind, we’re not quite ready to believe we’ll be hearing a result tomorrow. At least not until we see that press conference live and in progress!

You can watch the press briefing live stream here

As a reminder, the decision has come down to Kyiv or Odessa, with Dnipro having ruled itself out of the contest following the final postponement. Kyiv hopes to host the contest in the International Exhibition Centre, whilst Odessa will construct a roof on the Chernomorets Stadium if they are successful.

We found out earlier this week that the final decision has come down to the two most powerful men in the country: Ukrainian President Poroshenko and Prime Minister Groysman. The decision is likely to have been forced at this point, as it was revealed the EBU required an answer by the end of next week. This is for the next meeting between the EBU and Ukrainian broadcaster, NTU, which is set to take place in Berlin.

Numerous reports in recent weeks have heavily favoured Odessa to win. Eurovision winner Jamala does not think that the city is ready to host, though. Will the President and Prime Minister feel the same?

Are you excited that we might finally learn the Eurovision 2017 host city? Let us know who you want to win, Kyiv or Odessa, in the comments section below. Make sure to check back tomorrow where we’ll be bring you the announcement…so long as it happens, of course!

Loo, it’s actually quite hard and expensive (15-20 mln. euros) to build a roof able to handle all the needed weight.

This has gone too far. Corruption is the only word I can say at this moment. I bet on Kiev for political reasons. Odessa would be the best choice though. It’s not hard to build a roof on a building. It takes two weeks and it doesn’t cost a lot. I don’t think Odessa is a bad choice because of the arena like some people say, but politicians seems to want Kiev and we will en up there if they have the last say.

Prepare yourselves for another postponement, and then relax. They’ll probably have this all sorted out by Christmas. 😛

First of all, officially Dnipro is still in the race. Kyiv is the obvious choice here – it has an experience of hosting big events, UEFA EURO 2012 Final match, for example. It has numerous hotels, big modern airport (actually two) with direct international flights to almost every country in Europe. Odesa has many hotels as well, but its airport is dated and there are like ten international flights overall. Its advantage are beaches, and in May – if the weather permits – it is possible to sunbath and swim. Dnipro is even worse in regard of the airport, plus… Read more »

Actually, did some research. Looks like they did. Rather shocked at that. It seems you really can throw a fit and still be in office. Shame on the mayor of Dnipro for taking that far. Though, in all honesty, Dnipro never should have bid to begin with.

Hold up, Did i miss something? I thought Dnipro threw a fit when it wasn’t mentioned in the leak a few weeks ago. Did they officially drop out of the race?
