Call Green Peace, donate some money to the World Wildlife Fund, and plant some trees while you’re at it — Sofia Rol is headed to Junior Eurovision 2016.
The Ukrainian teenager won Ukraine’s national selection on Saturday with “Planet Craves for Love”, a song about saving the earth and each other.
“The light is mesmerizing don’t let it go,” she says in the song, which includes an English-language verse at the end. “I know my way, I’ll give it all I got and more.”
Built around the theme of nature, her performance saw her transform into a wood nymph, wearing an earth tone dress, a leafy headpiece and vines around her body.
Her backing dancers were cut from a similar cloth, wearing naturalistic body suits that smacked of trees, sand and animals.
Last year Ukraine’s Anna Trincher wowed us at Junior Eurovision with her own ode to the environment “Pochny Z Sebe“.
“People are cutting the trees because they want to build a house,” she told us in Malta.
“It’s so sad. I want people to change their attitude towards nature.”
And that theme now continues with Sofia — but will it be able to slay on stage in Valletta?
Did your favourite act win in Ukraine? How do you think this compares to the other songs we know so far?

After so many interviews, only first reaction matter, those are priceless.
And of course the winner placed first with the televote and second with the juries. 🙂
@Ryan
Oh, thank you very much! 🙂
This is interesting! My favorite, Denis placed second with the televote but really low with the juries. And my second favorite, Anastasiya won the jury vote but finished lower with the televote.
Btw William, are you going to make first reaction videos of JESC songs like you did last year? I hope so!
hahaha XD

left point for jury point and right for the televote
Shocking winner! I expected either Anastasiya or Andriy. But anyway, it’s a good song and she performed it well. 7/10 from me. I still wonder how my favorites, Denis Rodin and Anastasiya did though…
My top 5:
1. Albania
2. Russia
3. Belarus
4. Ukraine
5. The Netherlands
No bad songs so far, this is going to be a great year for JESC! 😀
It was a major mistake to choose this depressing cliche song, I don’t understand what they were thinking. 🙁
I preferred last year’s song tbh…
This is certain last place contender. Well, Ukraine doesn’t need to win ESC twice in the same year 🙂
