Despite having failed to advance to the final for a second year in a row, Iceland‘s national broadcaster isn’t wasting any time thinking about Eurovision 2017.

About a month ago Iceland confirmed their participation next year in Kyiv and now Iceland’s national broadcaster, RÚV, has announced the official deadline to submit entries for next year’s national final.

Those interested can submit their songs and lyrics through the website songvakeppni.is before October 28, 2016.

RÚV has also announced dates and venues for the event.

As usual the Icelandic song will be chosen through the immensely popular TV show ‘Söngvakeppnin‘.

The arrangement will be the same as last year, with two semifinals with six songs in each, and three songs advancing from each semifinal to the grand final.

The six finalists will sing-it-out for a spot in the so-called “gold final”, where the two highest scoring songs will battle with each other for the title and the chance to sing at Eurovision 2017.

The semifinals will take place in Háskólabíó, on February 25 and March 4. The final will take place on March 11 in Laugardalshöllin, the national indoor arena.

Last year’s national final also took place there — and for the first time — making it the biggest event in the history of ‘Söngvakeppnin’ to date.

After the success of the event RÚV has decided it won’t downgrade the venue and we are excited to see if the 2017 final can match the 2016 final in terms of quality and drama. And hopefully lead Iceland back to the final of Eurovision.

@Hello Egilshöl have hosted several concerts with attendances exceding 15000 people. 18000 people attended Metallica’s concert in the arena and that is not even the limit of the venue. It is an indoor football arena. And As for Laugardalshöll, it is smaller than Egilshöll, but definitely bigger than Kiev’s exibition center.

I think that had their entry stayed in Icelandic, it may have made it through. “Raddirnar” was really mysterious; “Hear them calling” downgraded to me that feeling a bit. Same happened with their other great entry in the final, Ostodvandi which was also fantastic. “Raddirnar” , “Ostodvandi” and “A Ny” were all great choices for Iceland, which deserves to snatch their first victory.

Iceland will win eventually , however if they do where would they host it ..
The Laugardalshöll is not big enough .. Would have been a suitable venue in 90’s but not now ..

One of my favorite countries on an annual basis.

They simply need to bring some of that can do gumption that got them so far in Euro and apply it here.

Like, in all honesty, if their entry was just three minutes of that awesome Viking hand clap, I wouldn’t object at all.
