He’s known for his frequent Melodifestivalen appearances, both as a dancer and as a two-time participant. Now Anton Ewald is showing fans a much darker side, with the very NSFW music video for his new single “Devil”.
The edgy R&B sound of the song takes inspiration from the edgy R&B of The Weeknd, and throws in a 1980s Michael Jackson flavour — far removed from the upbeat pop of Anton’s Melfest entries.
It seems the “Begging” singer is undergoing an artistic reinvention. He’s now known as just Anton, ditching his surname just like Carola did. And with the new name comes a raunchy new video that seems to have taken some inspiration from American Horror Story.
The video is directed by Anton’s fiancée, American film producer Victoria Fajardo. We find Anton wandering around a dark and mysterious house, where he finds people engaged in fetishistic sexual behaviour. He looks hot and bothered by it all.
While nothing too explicit is depicted, the video is still pretty extreme with what it implies and is most definitely not safe for work. Sex, violence and bodily fluids – it’s a lot to cram into one music video.
But the old Anton isn’t totally gone – two and a half minutes into the video, he busts out some classic pop video formation dancing. It’s a reminder of Anton’s roots as a dancer and choreographer, and his involvement in Melfest 2016 as the choreographer of Wiktoria’s “Save Me” performance.
All up, it’s camp and dramatic, a bit sexy, a bit gross and a bit silly — and we’re so intrigued by Anton’s new artistic direction.

Everything about this song made me go EEP. The edginess is painful. Hopefully he can bounce back with his next track because I don’t see this one doing too well.
Anton will always be an angel, not a devil, but nice try 🙂
This video is just too much, way too much, especially the scissors and tongue shot. Not easy to watch at all.
