The 2016 NRJ Music Awards were held Saturday 12th November in the mythical Palais des Festivals de Cannes. Two former Eurovision artists were nominated but only one of them managed to take home an award. Well, Amir didn’t just take home one, but two awards!
Amir was nominated in two categories: Francophone Breakthrough of the Year and Francophone Song of the Year. Much to his obvious surprise, he picked up both awards. Amir seemed shaken and on the verge of tears when his name was announced. During his first winning speech, he noted that “At the same time last year, I was watching the show from home”. He also paid tribute to the victims of the Bataclan attacks in November 2015.
The French representative then gave an energetic performance of his Eurovision single “J’ai cherché”. Amir presented an elaborate stage presentation with great visuals and dancers in the background. Those in attendance certainly seemed to enjoy it, enthusiastically dancing along with Amir. All we want to say is we would have loved to see staging like this at Eurovision!
Amir — J’ai Cherché at NRJ Music Awards
For the last award of the night, Francophone Song of the Year, Amir thanked the public for voting for him and for making him proud to represent France at Eurovision. He also went deeper in to the meaning of the song and how it means a lot to him. “J’ai Cherché” tells his own story of searching a meaning for his existence, which he eventually found thanks to the public and his music.

2016 has obviously been a great year for Amir. Not only did he bring give France their best placing in years at Eurovision, he’s also won the MTV EMA Award for Best French Act. To top it off, he’s now won two awards at one of the major musical events in France.
Unfortunately, there was less luck for other Eurovision acts. Celine Dion was beaten by Tal to the Francohpone Female Artist of the year. 2016 interval act Justin Timberlake lost in both his categories also. Y’all, that just makes us think Amir’s success is even greater!
Do you think Amir deserved his victories? What do you think of his performance of “J’ai cherché” at the show? Let us know in the comments section below!

Love Amir. Love his song. Good job France!
Congrats to Amir! A’m sure it’s well deserved and I’m happy this charming artist.
Amir’s success after the contest just proves that Nathalie André and Edoardo Grassi absolutely made the right choice to send him to Stockholm to represent France! His song just brings me so much happiness and he deserves it all so much
