Dunja Jelicic rode a hoverboard in the official video of “U La La La”, and she brought it along with her during today’s first rehearsal. Shining brightly in a sparkly silver waistcoat, she served Michael Jackson King of Pop realness with plenty of sequins — both on her jacket and on the LED. But the kaleidoscope of colours that bursts through a streaky backdrop are only a small part of this. She brings the fun factor by smiling big and dropping attitude as she glides across the stage on a hoverboard. It makes this earworm of a song even more infectious.

Poor her, having to compete with the better upbeat song and better hoverboard performance by Belarus. Serbia shot themselves in the foot.

I think the hoverboard is distracting. The movements are not in synchrony with the music and that feels uncomfortable.

Why spoil such a good dance song with hoverboard? Just bring in some good dancers.

I would love some backing dancers but this is amazing anyway. Serbia wins the battle of the hoverboards against Belarus, and in a landslide.

I really wasn’t expecting this…it’s a question of personal taste, but the jacket with the black top, pants and shoes don’t match the sporty and colorful aspect of gliding on a hoverboard: It makes Dunja look more mature than she should and the absence of backing dancers in this act takes away from the spirit of kinship conveyed in the clip. I actually think the hoverboard limits her gestures and natural flow, but the temptation to show off her talents probably got against her team’s better judgement. Nonetheless, Dunja is a very capable and multi-talented young performer.

Now listen – I’m pretty sure hover-boards can be dangerous on stage than they are in general. But one thing’s for sure, Dunja is apparently conquering the challenge! 🙂
