Round Three of Armenia’s three-month long national final is finally underway. After three weeks of auditions, contestants fought for a spot on the judges’ teams in Round Two. Twenty-four contestants made it through and now, Round Three will cut that number down to just 12. Our star-studded judging panel certainly has their work cut out for them.

In Round Three, one act from two of the judges’ teams will compete against one another in a duel. After those performances, the other five judges will vote for their favourite. Once their votes are revealed, the coach also votes but their vote is worth three points, meaning that they can potentially override a majority decision of their colleagues. The artist with the most points after this will advance to Round Four.

You can watch this week’s episode in full below.

Up first was Aram MP3’s team. Saro Gevorgyan went up against Lucy. The judges were impressed with Saro’s youthful energy but Lucy received the approval of all five judges, covering “Euphoria“. Aram MP3 gave his three points to Saro as a consolation prize but it had no effect on the outcome — Lucy became the first artist to advance to Round Four. She has been a favourite with our readers for some time and her dream to represent Armenia at Eurovision remains alive.

Inga’s team was next, with Karina Harutyunyan going up against Gevorg Harutyunyan. Gevorg became the first male to advance to Round Four, impressing the judges with a self-written song. The vote was 4-1, later becoming 7-1 after Inga had her say.

Hayko’s team pitted Amalya Margaryan against Anna Danielyan. The former impressed us last week with her cover of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On”, while Anna has been a favourite of our readers since the auditions. Ultimately, Amaly received Essaï’s vote but Anna advanced to Round Four in another 7-1 vote. Our favourite wrecking ball Egine will be left to duel next week.

The fourth duel was Team Anush, with Marta competing against Stepan Hovhannisyan. Marta has been on our radar since the second episode and covered “How Deep Is Your Love” in Round Two. Marta advanced comfortably in another 7-1 vote and she could be a dark horse to win the whole competition.

Essaï’s team was the next to perform. Girl group Only Girls — who covered Polina Gagarina last week — battled Arcvik, another of our readers’ favourites. Despite two strong performances, Arcvik advanced in the first unanimous vote of the round, winning 8-0. She’s definitely on our radar as a potential winner of Depi Evratesil.

Iveta’s team was the last to duel. Iveta’s 2016 backing vocalist Christina Mangasaryan went up against Hasmik Siroyan. Christina has previously covered Loreen and Pink, while Hasmik’s last performance had Iveta mashing her button. The initial vote was 3-2 in favour of Hasmik, the closest vote of the episode. Ultimately, Iveta said goodbye to her friend Christina, believing that Hasmik was more prepared to bear the burden of Eurovision.

At 1:33:40, a recap of the six successful artists was shown. The remaining contestants will compete in their duels next week.

Lucy’s English was horrible.. I also didn’t like her rendition of Euphoria. The guy was flawless. I don’t understand the jury.

@Azaad I think it’s an honor system thing (and it seems to be working out)

Marta and Only Girls had the only auditions that wowed me although I still think anna danielyan can win the whole thing
i fear next week when anna sedrakyan will be eliminated by alexander plato of all people 🙁

Some of the artists here should learn at least the English lyrics of their songs like Lucy and Euphoria…

wait, the other judges get to choose who to advance? if they’re competing themselves, that was a dumb decision, as all the best singers will be eliminated by the other judges…
