objetivo-eurovision-2017

Eurovision can be a great platform for newcomers and unknown artists — and every year upstarts turn to national selections with the hope of catapulting to stardom. Now, with Spain conducting a massive Internet selection as part of Objetivo Eurovisión 2017, ambitious artists are rushing toward Eurovision like bulls to a flame red matador.

Over the last few weeks countless not-so-famous artists have entered the competition. We’ve been taking note and can now share some of their songs below. Given that you don’t know who these amateurs are and that the majority have very slim back catalogues, we’ve decided to go light on the descriptions and include a thumbs-up/thumbs-down rating for each of them. Have a listen and then spread your love (or your shade).

Ángel Ruiz – “Sólo Tú”

Murcian singer Ángel Ruiz sings “Sólo Tú” — a pop-rock song in English and Spanish. It combines piano, guitars and slightly cheesy lyrics.

Rubén Rubén – “Ojú qué arte”

Andalusian duo Rubén Rubén sing the praises of their homeland in a dated, old-school, old-fashioned kind of way. They aren’t nodding to yesterday. They are shaking their entire bodies to it.

[polldaddy rating=”8480773″]

Roima Durán – “Abstracto”

Roima tried to represent Spain in 2011, but she didn’t make it to the final. Six years later, she’s back with “Abstracto”, in which she sings to a weirdo. Who may just like her rather bizarre offering.

[polldaddy rating=”8480777″]

OceaniK ft. Roch – “Sin Alas”

Wet t-shirts, clapping, castanets, beaches and a super cheap beat (Ibiza, circa 1995). But they look so happy in the video and we’re happy to see that. There’s no irony here, and it’s amazing to see that this kind of song and video still exists in 2016. (Anyone else getting a Spartacus travel guide vibe?)

[polldaddy rating=”8480781″]

Alejandro Ibázar – “Fuera lo malo”

Alejandro brings a happy-clappy song with a very positive message. It has shades of the free background music you can download online and put in your YouTube videos. But there’s a twist: The claps and the xylophone morph into a pop-rock guitar in the middle of the song.

[polldaddy rating=”8480786″]

Assier – “Dame tu veneno”

Introducing your first Latin lover of 2017! His name includes the word “ass”, which smacks of the colour that follows: Accordion, reggae-ton beats, and Windows Movie Maker magic. Fall in love at your own risk…

[polldaddy rating=”8480788″]

Lem Baquero – “Hard to love you”

DAT ALARM. But besides that, Lem brings one of the most current entries from this lot. It’s as if random reggae-ton artists you actually like and Justin Timberlake had a baby. And yes, there’s a xylophone here as well.

[polldaddy rating=”8480789″]

Alex Nogueira – “Lights”

Alex has only shared a 20-second teaser, but there’s some cute artwork. Hopefully there’s actually something that merits him teasing this…

[polldaddy rating=”8480792″]

Pedro Bautista – “Te entregué mi amor”

Pedro Bautista uses his auto-tuned voice to sing to a lover he lost, who left after he “gave her the key to his heart, gave her his love so that she wouldn’t leave” and yada, yada, yada. Translation cannot convey all of the cringeworthy lyrics here.

[polldaddy rating=”8480796″]

Alejandra Pais – “Ámame”

Drama, y’all! Alejandra is definitely feeling something, but it’s unclear if we are feeling it too. It’s another over-the-top ballad that features a woman in pain. There’s strong orchestration and some very solid vocals. But another woman giving birth to strings just doesn’t stand out.

[polldaddy rating=”8480800″]

Mikan – “No quiero más de ti”

Dated beats and cheap Europop at it’s finest, Mikan goes full-on Euro-pop. This could have done great…at Eurovision 1996. Though many would rightly have thought this was a copy of Gina G.

[polldaddy rating=”8480801″]

Ennis Bleu – “Love me wild”

Four words: Ibiza night club realness! I can’t find the “wild” of the title but hey, he offers dance beats and a silky sweet voice. The lyrics are as cheap as the production: “Baby when our bodies collide, all feels alright. And when we lay down I lose control. You don’t know…My body go wild.” He needs to check his conjugation.

[polldaddy rating=”8480803″]

These are just some of the many amateur options put forth for Objetivo Eurovisión. What do you think? Will any of these make the cut? Will they perform in the national selection or will they stay at home? Tell us in the comment section below!

Hello Wiwiblogs. I just wanted to tell you that every song sent to the casting has meant an effort of time, dedication and money from each of the artists and should be respected whether you like their songs or not. Signed, Mike, CM of Ruben Ruben. 😉

I like Ennis Bleu, it’s not perfect but his song and voice are so much better than some of those called ‘professionals’. Anyway Spain will flop again.

Poor poor Spain… (Apart from Alejandra)

I want to say that the song of Ennis Bleu is produced by one of the most important producers of Europe in one of the best studies of Europe, to emphasize the cheap of its production. To make dancing and to do it does not take deep absurd words.

If Lem Baquero would’ve reworked and expanded his entry then I’d pick it…

From what I can gather from Ektor Pan’s instagram, he has sent Perfect Storm to the selection but i can’t confirm this. I have heard the song and i think Spain could do well

I listened to Perfect Storm by Ektor Pan too, and I think it’s got good potential… then from here, “Ámame” is probably the only one that could stand any chances.

I am in love with “Vuelve a mi” by Gio Bermejo and also “Waiting for a better end” by Carmel.

Ámame is the best for sure. Others are almost the same and not really good, Lights sounds promising, but that’s all.

“Yikes” is the the only word that comes to mind.

One song I came across was Perfect Storm (Ektor Pan) although I don’t know if that’s an actual entry but it was quite nice.

None of them would earn a single point in Eurovision, but again, none of these will represent Spain in Eurovision.
