They’re the Swedish folk-pop girlgroup who captured our hearts on their Melodifestivalen debut in 2010.

And today Timoteij broke fans’ hearts by announcing that they’re going their separate ways.

Writing on their official web site, they said:

Thank you for these years with Timoteij!

On February 20th, 2010, our lives totally changed overnight. We stood on the stage of Melodifestivalen (Sweden’s biggest TV show), and although we were completely unknown at the time, we managed to get the most votes of all the artists. It was a shock of happiness, and the start of something great!

Almost seven years have now passed, and it’s time to move on with new projects and challenges. Cecilia continues with a solo music career, Elina wants to work in fitness and health, and Bodil is focusing on her own projects abroad.

The years with Timoteij make us incredibly happy and proud. We have released three albums, been awarded with platinum and gold records, toured all over Sweden and parts of Europe and – above all – met all our fantastic fans.

We would like to send a big thank you to all of our supporters, and we hope to see you this Christmas on our last tour.

/Timoteij

Timoteij started off as a quartet and reached the final of Melodifestivalen in 2010 with their entry “Kom”, ultimately finishing fifth in the final.

Their success as total upstarts marked their entrance into the Swedish music scene — as did their unforgettable entrance on the stage, marching in holding the guitar, violin, accordion and recorder, respectively.

They returned in 2012 with “Stormande Hav”, only to be knocked out by Top Cats in the Second Chance round.

Violinist Johanna Pettersson left the group in 2014 to pursue a dancing career in New York.

Prior to Johanna’s departure, the girls released the albums Längtan and Tabu as well their only Christmas single as a quartet “Jag kommer hem till Jul”.

The three remaining girls decided to continue as a trio and released their first single “Wildfire” last year. Several weeks later, they provided the backing vocals for Erika Selin at Ireland’s national final and, in July, they performed at Sommarkrysset 2015 with their single “Milky Way”.

Earlier this year, Timoteij released the EP “Under Our Skin”, which included the singles “Firelight” and “Never Gonna Be The Same Without You”.

The latter song now feels particularly apt.

And also, they sang folk music in Swedish, which was something quite unique for me.

I have seen them few times live and they were really nice and kind girls. I have all of their albums. Their music is so lovely. It’s sad to see their splitting. All the best for you, Timoteij! 🙂

Timo who? Ohhh yeah, that girl band from melodifestivalen, the overrated one who outside of the hysterical eurofan circle is totally unknown

Too bad, but it wasn’t unexpected. They really went downhill after the MF2012 flop.
