Markus Riva dynamite supernova

For the fourth consecutive year, Latvian superstar Markus Riva is taking part in Latvia’s national selection for Eurovision. Even if he hasn’t made it to Eurovision yet, his previous entries “Lights On”, “Take Me Down” and “I Can” have made a mark on the fandom.

And he’s doing it again in 2017. Just days after its release, his Supernova 2017 track “Dynamite” has topped the iTunes charts in Latvia, sliding past Ariana Grande’s “Side to Side” and Charlie Puth’s “Marvin Gaye”, among other global hits.

In the song, which includes a mysterious opening and an anthemic chorus filled with drums, Markus sings about a dangerous and bewitching romance. He knows that he should stay away from this person, but he just can’t hold himself back. His heart is dynamite and it’s ready to explode…

Markus, a veteran of Latvia’s Eurovision selection, took part in Latvian Dziesma back in 2014, making it to the final with his song “Lights On”. He came 10th with both the jury and the public, missing out on a spot in the superfinal.

A year later Markus returned with more solid vocals and a much stronger song in “Take Me Down”, finishing as runner-up to the unusually strong Aminata. Last year he competed again — this time with the song “I Can” — but didn’t reach the final.

Hopefully this fourth effort will bring him more luck and Markus will finally get the chance to represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest next may in Kiev.

“Dynamite” lyrics — Markus Riva

You are setting fires in my name
You invite a moth into the flames
There’s a steep price to pay
But I know that I’ll stay

Your kind of sorcery is dangerous to me
It’s gonna blow us skyscraper high
Your sensuality is stirring something deep
Unless it’s all a trick of the night

My heart is made of dynamite…

I should tell myself until I learn
Oh, try and get away before you burn
There’s a steep price to pay
But I know that I’ll stay

Your kind of sorcery is dangerous to me
It’s gonna blow us skyscraper high
Your sensuality is stirring something deep
Unless it’s all a trick of the night

My heart is made of dynamite…
My heart is made of dynamite…

And when you come around
The sound is deafening
It doesn’t beat so much
As it pounds for you

The risk I’m gonna die to take
Dynamite…
My heart is made of dynamite…
My heart is made of dynamite

As other people already said, it doesn’t take much to top those charts, as not many people use it. Also, mainy Russians are buying it, which is his fanbase.
In other words, this means nothing.

Markus has an amazing voice, and the music isn’t bad, but the lyrics seem weak to me… “blow us skyscraper high”? O.o

Markus has achieved a lot as he has a strong fan media on social media.

I strongly doubt he will win this year’s Latvian final. Firstly, the song would not get out of semi’s and there are stronger songs this year in the Latvian competition, e.g. Crime Sea, Triana Park, The Vincent, Linda Leen etc.

Good luck to him though.

This is his worst entry by far. It’s not that memorable, it’s tad boring.
It doesn’t make me feel anything. Sorry.

Who cares about charts, I agree with Hovi Star who said in Riga (2016) that everything is on youtube now and this is all, he does not care what else is released.

With all due respect, in countries like Latvia the Itunes charts mean f.ckall. Ariana Grande and Charlie Puth aren’t even in the top-100 anymore, one day later. With literally one or two copies sold you can already top the charts.
