Kasia Popowska, Gosia Mateusz

Last year Poland decided to give its national final another chance — and its Eurovision results justified the decision. Michal Szpak, who defeated international stars like Margaret and Edyta Górniak in the selection process, went on to secure eighth place at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm.

Tomorrow — on January 27 — we’ll finally learn which five to ten participants have been selected for Krajowe Eliminacje 2017.

And we are definitely looking forward to it as a series of Polish A-listers — including an androgynous male model, a Canadian Idol star and a former Swiss national final contender — have already confirmed that they submitted songs. Let’s have a look…

Mateusz Maga – “First Kiss”

Model Mateusz Maga is a trailblazer in Poland, having competed on Poland’s Next Top Model before forging a successful modelling career. Androgynous, fierce and totally true to himself, Mateusz counts 37,000 Instagram followers and is leveraging his popularity to move into singing. Like Michal Szpak he has long, flowing hair and he was the very first person to announce that he had submitted a song to the Polish national selection. Does his debut track “First Kiss” make you want to pucker up?

Kasia Popowska

Born in Lodz, 25-year-old Kasia Popowska rose to fame with the song “Przyjdzie Taki Dzien” — her debut single which dropped in 2014. She subsequently co-authored the lyrics of Doda’s hit “Riotka”. The self-taught guitarist hasn’t revealed her Eurovision submission yet, but the above will give you a sense of her voice and style (and undeniable beauty).

Gosia Andrzejewicz

If you’ve been following wiwibloggs for the past few years, then surely you’ve heard about Gosia Andrzejewicz — a popular pop and dance singer with two certified Gold albums — Gosia Andrzejewicz Plus and Lustro. A woman with international ambitions, she made it to the top 9 of the Swiss NF in 2014, but didn’t pass the expert check. She hasn’t revealed her song yet, but says it will be the biggest international hit of her career. Way to manage expectations….

Ronney – “Jestem Jaki Jestem”

A newcomer in the Polish music business, Ronney has submitted “Jestem Jaki Jestem” (I Am What I Am). And what is he? An actor, singer and model — a lethal combination on the Eurovision stage. This may be his first song, but it shows impressive finish and gloss. He says the song will consist of both English and Polish lyrics.

Anna Cyzon – “Not Completely Yours”

A Polish-Canadian singer and actress, Anna Cyzon kicked off her career with a Top 20 finish on Canadian Idol in 2004. She finished as runner-up at the Polish national selection in 2010 and hopes to compete again this year with the lyrical ballad “Not Completely Yours”. It’s a song that resonates with me and would be a worthy finalist in Poland.

Marzia Gaggioli

Unfortunately Marzia Gaggioli is Italian — and therefore unable to enter the selection, which requires artists to be Polish nationals. It’s a huge loss for all of her Polish fans who have consistently hoped she would do Eurovision. The 32-year old, who is fascinated with Polish language and culture, has been uploading songs in the Polish language for years. She’s got a magical tongue and also sings in English, German, Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

Despite the rules she submitted a song anyway. Remember: Poland’s rules do allow TVP to admit one wildcard which does not have to meet the requirements.

Anna is my favourite entry! Her song was amazing in 2010 and her song this year is perfect for eurovision! Ronney’s is decent too, but team Anna all the way!!

This article is a fake news!
In Poland nobody likes music of Gosia Andrzejewicz. She is cheesy and she can’t sing.
Nobody knows Rooney and Anna Cyzon. Their songs are borng
Maga is better model than singer. This will not change.

@Anna Miles. I’m tired with this “diaspora” bulls##t. We (the Poles) have quite big diaspora that’s true, yet we managed to gain third place (in televoting) only once in a recent time. If polish diaspora is that powerful as you think, then tell me why Poland failed to qualify (or barely did it) in 2005-2011? Tell my why in 2015 Monika Kuszy?ska finished 23 instead of reaching top 10?

@BraveMe too bad the song was released too early. It would definitely be the best of the entire bunch of possible songs for Krajowe Eliminacje.

There’s still hope. Sunsay participated in last year’s Ukraine’s NF despite “Love manifest” was released in Ukrainian in 2014, I believe. 🙂

Lanberry released Polish version of this song in August. I’m afraid changing language is not enough to consider Only human as a brand new song. :p

At least two or three of these are slightly better than Color Of Your Life, but still flat and pretty unexciting overall. Pretty much pee break material…
I really hope they saved the best for last… I’m really keen on winning for once.

If the above acts are ‘a joke’ as some here are saying – then I am really excited! Because I think a lot of the songs above show a really good and variety standard. So if things are only going to get better than this, then Poland is going to have one of the best finals this year!

You wrote only about the worst acts though, they won’t even qualify to Krajowe Eliminacje. We will see tomorrow official acts.

Well this is quite poetic.

The show that Mateusz came from, Poland’s Next Top Model, has a theme song that was once entered as a competing entry for Poland’s national selection 2011: “Supergirl” by SheMoans.

I love Gosia, she speaks perfect Italian and she can crossover from dance music to opera without any problems.

Most of these acts are a joke. Maybe except Kasia and Anna.
Check out Helolove – Hide & Seek. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M7mjGkqhr0 Main vocalist is a girl who was third in the same X-factor edition where Micha? Szpak came second.
