They’re the Welsh-English singing duo who won last year’s Eurovision: You Decide before singing for the UK at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm.

And earlier this week Joe and Jake proved that they are still going strong with the release of their newest single — a joyous tune called “Tongue Tied”.

The song bears a slight resemblance to their Eurovision entry “You’re Not Alone”, though they’re slowing things down just a tad and showing off their voices more — and it’s fantastic to hear.

The video of the acoustic performance is beautiful and shows Joe and Jake standing on an unnamed English hill, showcasing a very green and pleasant land. Jake strums the guitar and they both sing their hearts out, serenading that special girl who just doesn’t see the protagonist as more than just a friend. He’s rendered speechless — the tongue-tied of the title — over and over.

According to the lyrics, the boy might be better off really. This chick suffers from a bad case of  “A**hole syndrome” and does nothing but string the poor fellow along. As they say: “I can fight the battles, but I’ll lose the war, You know I’ll come running back for more.”

“Tongue Tied” lyrics — Joe & Jake

First time that I saw you

You took my breath away.

You knew I was leaving

but you made me stay.

You keep your secrets,

and I’ll keep mine.

Then I see you run back

to the other guy.

‘Cause you know he won’t treat you,

like you could be treated.

For a minute I thought that

history repeated.

I can fight the battles

but I’ll lose the war.

You know I’ll come running back for more.

But I’m tongue tied,

from the day I looked into your eyes.

I was tongue tied.

Just one more time I realized,

I keep hanging on

just to play pretend.

Try to make believe

that we’re more than friends.

But I’m tongue tied

from the day you said goodbye.

I see you dance on the weekends,

but you don’t want me around.

You only call me “baby”,

when the club shuts down.

It’s been a long, long ride home,

but when I arrive,

I know you’re thinking ’bout that other guy.

‘Cause you know he won’t treat you,

like you could be treated.

For a minute I thought that

history repeated.

I can fight the battles

but I’ll lose the war.

You know I’ll come running back for more.

Chorus

Keep me hanging on

just to play pretend.

Try to make me feel

like we’re more than friends

Great to see them releasing a anew tune. Shame on BBC for not getting them on the show last night.

Totally agree that they deserved better than 24th place.

I think this is a duo that is very strong with acoustic versions of songs. They make this feel genuine and they have excellent voices, without trying too hard. I hope they make more hits!

I like the song a lot. Such a shame that the mic recording in the video was clipping whenever they’re hitting the chorus parts.

I’m happy for them, hope they will stay together, they deserved a better place, last year was such a safe year, everybody was serious. Maybe they were the only act more light and positive.

This song is great!! I’ve always loved their voices and I think they compliment each other well as a duo and (unpopular opinion) they should’ve been in the top 5 last year but there’s a wider issue here that I have a personal petty problem with lol. It’s one of my pet peeves seeing pretty boys singing an intimate soft love song about a girl in a video that is obviously trying to highlight their looks more than their voices because looks = views. You see this a lot on facebook/instagram/vine/musical.ly and its very annoying. Luckily there’s only a *hint*… Read more »
