At Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, you’ve got to slay all day, every day — and no matter what the location. So as this year’s tour moves from Gothenburg to Malmö this week, expectations remain high that Sweden’s Eurovision hopefuls will deliver. Given that Malmö hosted Eurovision 2013, perhaps the acts will have extra spring in their step. Two more artists will join last week’s qualifiers Nano and Ace Wilder in the Melodifestivalen final, while another two artists will get a second chance a week before the final in the Andra Chansen round.

Melodifestivalen 2017: Semi-Final 2, Malmö

The second heat of Melodifestivalen 2017 includes two former Melfest finalists, four debutants and one artist who has already represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions.

A veteran among veterans, Roger Pontare sang for Sweden at Eurovision 1994 together with Marie Bergman and again in 2000, when the contest was held in Stockholm. He returned to Melodifestivalen in 2006 and made it to Andra Chansen with “Silverland” (cue the jokes about his greying beard). This year he is competing with “Himmel och hav” (Sky and sea).

Mariette, who finished third in 2015 behind Måns Zelmerlöw and Jon Henrik Fjällgren, will open the show in Malmö. Sources close to the contest tell us that if she can nail her staging she stands a big chance of winning it all.

Swedish Idol winner and Melodifestivalen 2016 finalist Lisa Ajax seems to be taking a step away from her sweet girl-next-door image, and is singing “I Don’t Give A”. Her song is written by The Family — the songwriting team behind Måns’ “Heroes”, among other Melodifestivalen hits, and Ola Svensson, who himself competed in Melfest twice.

But we shouldn’t forget the debutants. Benjamin Ingrosso — son of Pernilla Walghren, who has competed four times at Melodifestivalen — will close the show with “Good Lovin'”. Glam rock band Dismissed are newcomers to Melfest, but their song is co-written by Ola Salo, the front man of The Ark.

Dancehall artist Etzia and rapper Allyawan will also make their first appearances at Melodifestivalen.

But which of these acts are you most looking forward to seeing on the stage of Malmö Arena this Saturday? Vote in our poll and let us know. You can vote for as many of your favourites as you wish, but you can vote only once. Be sure to tick the box next to all of the acts you want to support before pressing submit. We will go through the results before we hear the first snippets on Thursday, February 9.

Rich, you should be more excited for Mariette. A lot of rumours going around that it may be the winner.

Well, of course Lisa and Mariette, when you ask like this… I know their previous works, so… But release the songs and then we’ll talk business.

I’m not really old enough to actually remember Roger Pontare first time ’round, but I love both his previous entries (’94 &’00) – it’s always good to see a two-time winner return! That being said, look what happened to poor Charlotte, and Roger’s former partner Marie Bergman – both came last in their heats. 🙁

Lisa Ajax and Mariette obviously.
This should be a big step up in quality from heat 1.

I wouldn’t expect so much from Mariette (G:son song).
Her last attempt was so overrated by Esc fans, as Swedes didn’t care for that song at all.

We need to wait for the songs, but this heat is looking good for Lisa and Benjamin.
One newcomer will go dtf for sure.

@AngieP: yes me too! Mariette would have probably been 2nd if she was also in 2015 with Mans. So so good 🙂

Mariette and Lisa! But mostly Mariette!
Her song in 2015 was unbelievable, still love it! Her voice is great! I have to say I have high expectations! Hope she comes with a great song!

Anyone old enough to remember Roger Pontare? (I am.) He’s so entertaining. 🙂
Lisa Ajax really impressed me last year, so I voted for her in all honesty.
Mariette is very good as well, but it will be difficult to have a song that’s better than “Don’t Stop Believing” – that was a great song.
Benjamin as well – wow! He’s really good; plays piano etc.
That’s already four acts who I love! This is going to be a more difficult heat I reckon.
