They’re like chalk and cheese. Lodovica Comello is a 26-year-old showgirl who recently conquered legions of young fans all over the world thanks to Disney’s ViolettaAl Bano will turn 74 in May and, owing to his celebrated 50-year career, is one of the most famous Italian singers in the world.

But both of these Italian stars will be among the 22 participants in the Sanremo Music Festival, which kicks off on February 7. And both share one big dream: Representing Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

The veteran of this odd couple has already competed on the Eurovision stage three times. In 1976 and in 1985 Al Bano waved the Italian flag together with his ex-wife Romina Power, performing “We’ll live it all again” and “Magic oh magic“. In 2000, he returned to the contest, providing backing vocals for the Swiss entry “La vita cos’è?” performed by Jane Bogaert.

Seventeen years later, he’s still hungry. Speaking to Quotidiano.net, Mr Carrisi — who will sing “Di rose e di spine” at Sanremo — reveals he wouldn’t turn down another offer to sing at Eurovision.

“I’ve been twice at the Eurovision together with Romina: In 1976 with We’ll live it all again, a song with zero feedback in Italy, while abroad it had great success, and then again in 1985 with Magic oh magic, another hit. But all good things come in threes, so I hope this is the right time for me! To represent Italy, anyway, the rules say I need to win the Festival.”

On the other side of the table there’s Lodovica Comello. She’s a beauty able to sing and dance and she’s ready to slay the pack at the Ariston Theatre, where Sanremo will be held.

She rose to fame through her role as “Francesca” in the Argentine Disney Channel series Violetta. Lodovica is a rising star in her home country. She proved her talent as a tv host on the latest edition of Italia’s Got Talent and Singing in the car, which is based on James Corden’s famous Carpool Karaoke series. She drives. She sings. She laughs. We love.

Now the time has come for her to be known to the general public as a singer. Her entry is titled “Il cielo non mi basta” (The sky is not enough) and we’re sure she will take us to the stars!

On December 13, 2016, we told you why Lodovica Comello should sing for Italy at Eurovision 2017 and she sent us lots of love straight away.

On January 30 she spoke her heart out when interviewed by Radio Italia.

“It would be such an honour to represent my country,” she said. “A dream come true! I’ll keep my fingers crossed. If it happens, I’ll be absolutely satisfied because it’s something I dreamed of for a long time”. And we dream with her!
