Samir Loghin

The Wiwi Jury, our in-house panel of music unprofessionals, is in Chisinau and is busy reviewing the songs from Moldova’s national selection O melodie pentru Europa 2017. The last act is Samir Loghin, who joined the Moldovan hora after Irina Kit withdrew from the selection. He will perform the song “Glow” in the semi-final. Does it make us want to log in or rather log out? Let’s find out!

“Glow” reviews

William: Samir opens this act by clapping his hands out of time, which pretty much sets the tone for this car crash of a performance that features choreography from the school of I’ve-had-one-too-many-drinks-before-auditions.The melody is annoying — is he saying choo-choo on repeat? — and the production abysmal. But Samir’s self-belief and the interesting Oriental sounds still pull this ahead of his similarly lacklustre competitors At least he’s memorable in that WTF kind of way.

Score: 5.5/10

Chris: I think I have an inkling why Samir didn’t get through in the first place. Terrible vocals, cheesy gurning throughout the performance, it’s all just bad. I genuinely suspect that I could sing the song better than him, and I can’t sing. The actual song, if I took the rest of it away, isn’t that awful. Shame it’ll never be performed well.

Score: 2/10

Robyn: As a song “Glow” has a great sound, it’s very current and cool. But Samir’s performance isn’t great. His vocal ability isn’t up to the level that “Glow” was written for, so he always sounds like he’s straining. And that weird “toot toot” hook is a huge waste. Why substitute lyrics for nonsense noises?

Score: 3.5/10

Deban: Absolutely dreadful! I’ve heard better at a drunken karaoke. Samir’s voice wails in the most irritating way.

Score: 1/10

Bogdan: Another example of a great song ruined by the vocalist, “Glow” is one of the most current tracks in Moldova’s selection. It would have worked wonders if it hadn’t been given to Samir Loghin. He doesn’t sound good in the studio version to begin with, but at the live audition he sounded atrocious. I’m not surprised Samir only made the cut after Irina Kit’s withdrawal. What a waste of a good song!

Score: 4/10

Well, this song is nothing special or good at all, but has some potential, specially the studio version. I wouldn’t mind listening a good version of this song!

He remembers me of Can Bonomo (Turkey 2012), in a good way.
Please Moldova, you must understand that everything we see must be designed as a show. You can do better, but you must understand that even from the early stages everything must look and sound good. I know you can do it, just that you don’t understand it yet.
