SPOTLIGHT ON THE EESTI LAUL 2017 FINAL RUNNING ORDER
As with their counterparts across the continent, Estonian producers strive to create a running order that makes for the best possible show — balancing genres and keeping viewers glued to the screen.
“Keep Running” opens the show with a bang, Daniel Levi and Elina Born pick up the tempo in the middle and “Feel Me Now” acts as the perfect palette cleanser before “Spirit Animal” roars onto the stage.
All of the acts will be making significant changes to their performances on the stage at the Saku Suurhall in Tallin. They’re going big and none of them want to go home.
MÅNS ZELMERLÖW TO PERFORM AT EESTI LAUL 2017 FINAL
As well as the ten Estonian acts performing on the night, Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw will be performing on the show, as he gears up for the European leg of his Chameleon Tour 2017.
He’ll perform “Glorious” — the third single from his new album Chameleon.
WHEN CAN I WATCH THE EESTI LAUL 2017 FINAL?
You can watch the final of Eesti Laul 2017 live on ERR from 20:35 CET on March 4. The winning act will go on to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv and will hope to avenge Jüri Pootsmann’s last place finish in the semi-final in 2016.
REDFORD you was writing previously that “the crowd won’t vote for Kerli” or something like that, so i’m ” the crowd ” too and i will vote for Kerli definitely, my friends will vote same way, so please don’t make a decision instead of the crowd.
@redfox
Thanks for the correction! I didn’t notice!
@PP: Koit TOOME, 2 O´s, not Tomme
My favorite
1.Koit Tomme ja Laura
2.Elina Born
3.Ariadne
4.Rasmus
5.Kerli
Ariadne for me have best song, but stage performance is static, and she don t have strong voice. Kerli doesn t sound good in semi live.
Kerli needs to win this, her song will be a standout performance in Kyiv and very importantly it’s memorable. People will be looking out for it in the recaps and with the right staging it can leave an impact which the other songs may not be able to do.
@redfox – Thank you for the Estonian letters. Yeah, for a foreigner might be difficult to know the difference between three o’s and their pronounciation accordingly. Croatian letters are also difficult to foreigners and I was explaining them on an earlier post. I like this kind of cultural exchange. The whole point is to become more aware of other European cultures and languages.
Kerli is such a cliched song. The dancers in loin clothes are unoriginal. Its supposed to be primal and unpredictable but then the chorus drags repetitively. If this goes to kyiv im hoping for not qualify to final
Definitely think that Elina being right in the middle and Kerli being the closer have a good advantage. I think that it is really between these two songs and the producers know it.
@Polegend Godgarina: wow, to see the day when someone mixes up soul and blues-rock. Rasmus´s song is totally different from Jüri´s. @AngieP: Eesti is with two e´s. I know double vowels are hard to SAY for foreigners, but writing it down is easier. also, if anyone needs and wants to use the dotted letters: ä (the letter in Rändvee), ö (double “öö” = “night” in estonian, try saying Röövel Ööbik for practice), õ (the letter in Kõiv, Kerlis´ surname, and Põldvere, Lauras´ surname, if you can say this letter, you automatically become estonian, sounds a bit like zombies: Õõõõõõõõ! )… Read more »
@Martin: Me too. #TeamElina 🙂
“Spirit animal” has a clear advantage, as the last song. But I agree with @Robyn Gallagher. No song can follow. It’ll be weird. Apart from that, “Verona” has a good position, despite being this early. The previous and the next song are weaker. I have to admit this year Esti Laul is maybe the most interesting NF, with many good songs. My favourites in general: Laura and Koit, Elina, Ariadne and Rasmus. As for who should go: I fear Rasmus may have a Jury effect and not do so well. Elina could have a great performance, though the song isn’t… Read more »
Based on the running order and the jury not liking it, I doubt that Verona will make the superfinal. It’ll most likely be Elina,Kerli,and maybe Ariadne
I have so many favs in this final but Liis Lemsalu and Rasumus are my favorites!
Verona is the only option!! It should win!!! PLease Estonia, be Smart!
Kerli is the usual ESC (gay) fans cliche-boring-female-diva-pop song that will eventually be left in the Semi (remember 2014?). So, no, thanks, it just doesn’t make sense nor it gives me winner vibes.
Rasmus with “This Love” on the other hand is classy. Hopefully he will win. Fingers crossed for him. But I won’t mind not seeing him on stage in Kyiv. Let the (gay) ESC fans cheer for their female divas. LOL I will be just sad that Europe won’t see Rasmus enjoyment while performing and the talent that he has. Sigh.
@Erasmus:”I’m rooting for Elina, Kerli and Rasmus” – Exactly the same 🙂 @Polegend: Maybe because he was clearly the best on stage, with amazing song and charisma. It has a vague style similarity with the previous winner, but Play was also a great song, so I don’t see the issue there. What costed him a pass in finals in not the song, but a bit shaky performance, which isn’t the case with Rasmus. He owned the stage. But ”Play” and ”This Love” are as similar to one another as ”Breathlessly” and ”Voiceless” or ”Moustache” and ”Dancing Lasha Tumbai”. It just… Read more »
I’m rooting for Elina, Kerli and Rasmus, they have the best performences of Eesti Laul 2017. I also really like Slingshot and Have You Now. Feel me now is really good in studio version, the live version seems dull. Verona is nice but for me nothing special.
Eesti Laul is so overrated. There are no songs I like in this NF.
Why do y’all want Rasmus? His song is a remix of Play lmao.
Looking great for Kerli! I loathe that Verona song, such a kii it got the dreaded 2nd slot 🙂
I am the only one who loves Lenna Kuurmaa’s song! I don´t understand why people hate that! :/
@CookyMonzta – Maybe just Eesti Laul has better organizational skills than A-Dal? Their judicial skills weren’t much better either.
Running order can at times be already suggested by the song title/topic. I liked how UMK semi last year opened with twins who sang ‘Ready for the Show’ or something along that lines. Also, ESC organizers knew what they were doing when Latvia opened the semi few years ago with PeR’s ‘Here We Go!’
I can see the benefits for Rasmus.. his song is very direct and in a very good position on the board. Ariadne could be in trouble since she has a very special and unique song but compared to Kerli and Rasmus its a much more innocent song if you want and it will sound pretty dull on the night because of that I believe..
@Robyn: If that were the case, A Dal would have ended (rather than opened) the competition with Gabi’s “Hosszú Idök”. Either that, or Joci’s “Origo”. Nothing could have been more anticlimactic than to have Gina’s “Fall Like Rain” follow “Origo” and close out the competition.
Eesti Laul has the strongest final line-up of any NF so far. Weakest songs here easily run over majority of Romanian or Lithuanian entries. Four songs are title claimants in my opinion: – Kerli with Spirit Animal (fan-favorite, different than anything else in the contest) – Koit and Laura with Verona (one of the most dynamic duets in ESC memory) – Elina Born with In or Out (fan favorite, best performance of semi 1) – Rasmus Randvee (real dark horse here, probably had the best performance of saturday evening, including Krajowe Eliminacje, Melodifestivalen, MESC and A-Dal) I wouldn’t mind ANY… Read more »
@Chris (frostyw): That’s the one thing that gets Kerli marked down on my scorecard; the repetitiveness of the lyrics in the chorus. If it doesn’t kill her chances in the final, she ought to change those chorus lyrics before the ESC. After the Ukrainian final in 2014, Mariya Yaremchuk and her crew rewrote the chorus lyrics to “Tick-Tock” because the original chorus sounded incredibly dopey. It worked, and she finished 6th in Copenhagen.
Oh, boy…Methinks Liis Lemsalu got the short end of the stick here. And she was starting to look like a winner here. Koit and Laura may have the same problem as Janice did with Claudia at MESC; that is, having to contend with a more well-known artist singing last.
This one is Kerli’s to lose. If she slips up, it could be Koit and Laura, Elina or even Rasmus stealing the title.
Yeah, this is Kerli’s for the taking, here’s why: 1) I don’t think Verona is going to make the top 3. Verona wasn’t among the jury favorites in semi 1 and scoring well with the juries will be all the more harder in the grand final. With no love from the jurors, it’s going to be hard for them to reach the super final. Sure, they have an army of fans behind them but so does Kerli, Ariadne and Ivo Linna. They share of public votes Verona does get won’t be enough to push them to top 3. 2) Jury… Read more »
I love the novel feel that Spirit Animal brings to the contest, but I find the chorus to be quite repetitive. On its first appearance, she repeats the same thing four times. There are only three minutes, so make the most of them. Even so it’s one of the better ones for me.
Still hoping Verona pulls through but 2nd position is such a kiss of death 🙁
Kerli would be ok with me, she is probably my #2 this year in Eesti Laul. But not nearly as high as Verona for me.
Zack – It’s not so much going early, it’s more that specifically the 2nd spot is considered the worst position.
Also with YouTube views, keep in mind the semi 1 songs were released a week before the semi 2 songs.
Such a shame that other countries can’t ‘inherit’ some of the songs that won’t make it – there are 4-5 songs in that final that are going to be much better than most countries’ entries this year.
Fan favorite Laura &Koit Toome? Only Wiwibloggs wants Laura, all the fans want Kerli!
Please win this, Moon Mother <3
Itunes: “Feel me now” and “Verona” are leading
Spotify: “Have you now” is comfortable in the lead . Feel me now is second. “Verona” third at Viral chart
Youtube (performances): “Feel me now” leads. It follows “Have you now” and “Spirital animal”
@Peyton Haha! Literally said the same thing at the same time!
Kerli was ill on when the semi-final performance was recorded. I’m sure her vocals will improve!
@blondboybc
Kerli said in a vlog on her YouTube channel that she completely lost her voice two days before her performance. I still thought she did great on Saturday though and I hope she’ll be even better on the 4th 🙂
Remember, Laura was spot #1 with Supersonic. So early time-slot isn’t the death of a song, just the performance matters in the final.
Maybe Koit & Laura just did much worse in the semis than people think, and that’s why they got placed second.
@Briekimchi
Totally agree with you.I have 7 entries I like in this NF.That would be a personal record for me I’d say(70%)
1. Spirit Animal/ Verona
2. Verona/ Spirit Animal
These two songs are AMAZING.
3. This Love
4. Feel Me Now
5. In Or Out (Not bad but overrated)
6. All I Need
7. Keep running
8. Slingshot.
I’m not a fan of the other two.
Estonia has great songs. One of the best NFs.
well slip of tongues have already told their story. I guess it is going to be Kerli no matter how hard others´´ fans work. I wish it was Ivo though. Cause why not send our legend. I hope Ivo and Rasmus dont cancel each other out, though Ivo is with a band — I am so torn what I want to see from Rasmus – back singers on stage or not? Unsure…. I have no idea what I am going to see or hear, have never been on the live concert of EL before. maybe I am a mile away… Read more »
Second spot for Koit and Laura is not great. Kerli clearly benefits from singing last. The producers apparently want her to win….wouldn’t mind that, but prefer “Verona”. Anyway, whoever they send, I’m sure Estonia will be in top 10 this year. Honestly, Kerli and Laura need to up their vocals if they want to do well. :0
I love Verona… But keep running would have mu vote to win. But both are so early on…. interesting!!!!
I want Laura/Koit to win but would not mind Kerli as a second choice.
Got a feeling that it is going to be Daniel Levi though.
Seriously though….look at that final and feel the quality! All of the other national finals have been put to shame.
i think the winner is kerli because the girl in verona has a lot vocal problems .bye girl 😉
I think Verona, In or Out and Spirit Animal have the best spots considering those before/after them are much weaker songs. But Estonia want Kerli to win this.
